@averagemoneymd Y’all are so mortgage obsessed it’s insane. Getting your brokerage to $500k is much more difficult than making a monthly mortgage payment. Leave it be.

Our taxable brokerage now exceeds our 3.75% mortgage (currently $488k) for the first time ever. Should I sell it all and go mortgage free????

It’s actually 250 days. But option 1) start your own business and you can take whatever time off you want, or option 2) become a homesteader and you get no time off at all. We’re pretending like we have it so tough nowadays, but to survive a few hundred years ago the average person had to scrap it out every single day.

28 days of annual leave. Out of 365. Your employer owns 337 days of your year. You get 28. And half of those you spend recovering from the other 337. How is this the "good deal" everyone told you to be grateful for?

Would you still buy a $75,000 BMW if you realized that no one cares what you drive? What if you bought a $20,000 Honda instead and invested the rest into $VOO Over 30 years, that costed you $1 million…. I hope you like your fancy car.

@SenWarren You can already do that. Why don’t you simplify the code instead so a third party doesn’t have to try and dumb it down for people to get the fairest return.

@GuyTalksFinance @genzmoney97 Most generational wealth is, in fact, created through heavily concentrated positions. That’s a hard truth to escape.

@genzmoney97 Absolutely Invest into an S&P 500 index fund or something similar with your 401k For most people I’d avoid buying single stocks.. not sure how that’s a hot take

Before you buy any single stock — make sure to have at least $50,000 invested in the S&P 500 first.

@theficouple Well comparing an index fund to one real estate investment property is dumb first of all - they’re not equivalencies. Compare it to an individual stock instead and there are plenty examples of names that obliterate that return.

People will say real estate is a scam or "not worth it". We paid $485k for a 5-unit deal and put 8% down with seller financing. All in we invested ~$45,000 and the cash flow is $1,100/mo. Thats ~30% cash on cash return + appreciation. ...Show me an index fund that does that.

Let’s say you had $132,000 in the bank. But you also have a $132,000 mortgage at 4.8%. Would you invest the money in the stock market or pay off the house?

Defensive much? The Norse were demonstrably the first. It was short lived but “once or twice” is dismissive of the facts. They weren’t undeveloped (actually built the framework for much of European civilization - the Norman Duchy for one), advanced ship building (the term starboard and the keel), ironwork, and modern hygiene (many had blonde hair from consistent use of lye heavy soap, they bathed frequently). I understand you’re overly protective of your history, but your frustration probably lies with the fact that Spain hasn’t done anything noteworthy in a century or two.

@wmaxwellfryer @WarMonitor3 And who was? Because nobody claimed before Spain and nobody dominated it like Spain. If you are going to tell stupid stories about undeveloped Vikings reaching once or twice the shores of north Canada from Greenland, you can save those words

My boomer mom’s house appreciated $600,000 in 22 years. She didn’t invest. She didn’t grind. She didn’t “build multiple income streams.” She just bought a house in 1998 and waited. Last week she sent me a Dave Ramsey video about cutting subscriptions. I cancelled Netflix. My rent went up $300 the same week.
