I have a genuine question, apart from all the jokes. Is it still expected that the guy always pays? I genuinely thought dates were more of a 50/50 thing now. On a first date, you're essentially two people getting to know each other. You barely know one another, and whether you'll even continue seeing each other is uncertain. So expecting one person to cover the entire bill doesn't make much sense to me. I know some people will say it's chivalry, tradition, or simply a gesture they enjoy making, and that's completely their choice. But personally, I don't really understand why it should be the default expectation. And girls, I hope we're all comfortable paying for our own meals and expenses too. Financial independence is important, and relying on someone else to fund your lifestyle or even your dates doesn't seem like a great idea in this economy.
