The domination of country music is really depressing. The biggest outdoor ticketed concert in the history of the USA happened last year. It was Zach Bryan, a country artist, with 112,408 fans on September 27, 2025. The previous record was George Strait, another country act, on June 15, 2024, with 110,905 people. Before that it was in 1977, 107,019 people by the Grateful Dead. George Strait despite being 73 years old and the 12th best-selling music artist in American history, has only ever done ONE show outside the US/CA and that was in the UK. Luke Bryan is a bit better, but he's performed less than six shows in Europe in his long career. But the Grateful Dead? They have a logo and music that spread across the globe but have at least performed in three different continents. Every other domination of music in the past 20 years, be it pop, EDM, hip-hop, has created a cultural ripple effect across the entire world. Everyone started dressing like rappers. They are still the leading form of trends for fashion trends for young people globally. With EDM, you started getting all of these cool remixes between genres and, of course, huge festival culture (positive or negative) and the drugs associated with that. It's something that you can identify and see across the globe. But when it comes down to country, they're dominating the charts domestically in the USA, but nobody else gives a fuck. Nobody is trying to dress like country artists. Nobody's trying to play guitars, and nobody's trying to make country music. Latin music like Bad Bunny is interesting and entertaining as well. It's a cultural product that's fun, that can be played everywhere because it gets people moving, something that country only does within the cultures that already like it, which is such a small fraction of the USA. Now, K-pop is more of an enticing cultural product. Granted, it does come full circle because a lot of K-pop is influenced via choreographers or songwriters and producers that came from golden eras of hip-hop and pop music. But other than hip-hop, even domestically, K-pop within young people is a lot more widespread than country. I don't know what it is. Some could say the culture, and everything surrounding country music just feels so exclusionary to everyone that isn't a part of it. And that may not be intentional, but it's evident by how it's received in comparison to other genres like edm, latin trap/reggaeton, k-pop, and various subgenres of hip-hop.
