I, too, am interested in a hand out that benefits me and mine specifically. It is only reasonable and moral. As you can see, when people like me benefit, it benefits the country as a whole. It is obviously correct when people that match these specific characteristics are given a leg up. It’s purely coincidence that I also fall into this category. In fact, the reason that our nation is not like it used to be, back when it was better, is because of the lack of this subsidy that I am advocating for. It is governments responsibility to lift up this specifically selected group. The other people, that live somewhere else or are a different age than my cohort, are currently monopolizing the benefit and that is clearly not fair. Their enjoyment of it is detrimental. Our enjoyment of it, however, would be egalitarian.

@hokiemystic @SeanGailmard What about believing people from a certain culture or country of origin will cause you to lose your community? By definition, those are people that have different culture and community. Ignore skin color.

@SeanGailmard Believing a people of a certain race will cause you to lose your community is racism. You’re correct, we don’t need studies to determine what is happening.

I don’t understand the genre of scholarship that seeks the *secret true* reason for a policy preference. People will just tell you they’re worried about losing their communities. Why isn’t that a good enough reason? It doesn’t make you a bad person.

Eric Kaufman, a conservative but fairly honest political scientist, did a bunch of work showing opposition to immigration in the west is primarily driven by racial fear not economics. And the Trump admin is largely driven by the same.

@cartermcclung Am I crazy or does this seem extreme for what is less than a half million dollar gain?

How I'm working to save a client $100,000 in taxes: They've held Apple stock for decades. Smart move, except now they're sitting on a capital gain that would cost them six figures the moment they sell. Most advisors would say "just pay it." Or they'd suggest a charitable trust you'll never actually use. We did something different. Their parents are aging and don't need the money. So, we gifted the stock to them while their parents are still alive. The client stays named as beneficiary. Here's why it matters: when you inherit assets, the cost basis resets to whatever the investment is worth at that time. The original gain disappears for tax purposes entirely. So instead of writing a $100,000 check to the IRS, my client waits. The stock passes back to them through the estate. The gain is gone. Over $100,000 stays where it belongs (in their pocket, not the IRS).

For anybody who got extended by their accountant: your accountant is probably lazy and just didn’t prioritize you even though you had your stuff in well before the deadline. You should fire them.

Racism is for low IQ degenerates in general, but it is a whole other level of white trash when they start claiming Native Americans aren’t real Americans. 99% of you “pure” whites are European peasant scum progeny, you aren’t special.

@JoshInEncinitas @DrumboneJD So is the issue here that CA does not reassess upon death of the grantor if the home is held in trust and never actually changes hands on title? I’m assuming CA would reassess upon death/inheritance without being held in trust.

@Rationalbot You exist in a society with competing interest groups. There is no way to resolve this tension besides recourse to force, which is undesirable and inefficient. The best way to resolve this system is institutionalized bargaining methods to approximate a political coase theorem

My guy, you want to call strawman? Look in the mirror. No one said headshot and CV = contributing positively to society. No one said that LinkedIn profile = good person. It is a data point, from which certain things can be inferred when combined with other data points. That is not a controversial statement. Collect data points, make conjectures or draw conclusions based on those the strength and veracity of those data points. You were also not “asking me to reflect.” You are looking to poke holes in my assertion.

@1031CRE @DanFriedman81 @HistoryBoomer I wasn’t obfuscating the point, I was asking you to reflect on it, which you seem incapable of doing. “Leftist discourse” is a lame straw man. Having a headshot and a CV doesn’t equal to contributing positively to society in any way.

People who follow me know I am anti-crime and support harsh punishment for criminals, but I believe that misdemeanor assault is the right outcome in this case and might even be too harsh. The reason is that after a month, we don’t know the name of the victim. We haven’t heard from any of his family. Typically, the name of a victim is withheld pending family notification, and if the police still haven't released his name after a month, that means that they have been having a very difficult time reaching a next-of-kin to notify. I believe this means that the man Nassadir Tate punched was likely a homeless mentally-ill junkie who accosted Tate in some way — not merely a fellow commuter who accidentally bumped into him. Nobody but a street person can be killed on a subway platform and never be identified by name in the media. Meanwhile, Nassadir Tate is a guy with an apartment he pays rent for, no previous criminal record and a LinkedIn -- he is a reasonably solid citizen. A lot of people online are projecting assumptions into the absence of details surrounding the man who died in this case and imagining that Tate is a thug who murdered a victim for no reason. I think this is a Daniel Penny-type situation where a citizen defended himself against an aggressive homeless person. When there is a violent confrontation between a junkie and a citizen and the facts surrounding the case are ambiguous, I always assume the junkie is at fault. Also, a lot of people online assume the victim was white and that this may have been a random hate attack, but based on what I have read about the case, I am 90% sure the dead guy was black.
National Conservative@NatCon2022

NYPD says video shows Nassadir Tate, 21, fatally punching a man, 55, at a subway station on 3/14. The victim had accidentally bumped into him. Tate was given a misdemeanor desk appearance ticket. One month later, no name of victim, no video, and Tate is still walking free.

@TarHeelHitch @DanFriedman81 @HistoryBoomer It’s a data point. I can only assume you are intentionally obfuscating the point here? How many homeless drug addicts do you know with professional headshots and a CV? Good talk.

@1031CRE @DanFriedman81 @HistoryBoomer And I would argue “participate in professional society” is a relatively useless phrase to assess whether someone is a “good citizen.” What certain things are being inferred?

@TarHeelHitch @DanFriedman81 @HistoryBoomer It shows they participate actively in professional society. Doesn’t mean they are a good person, but is a data point that can be used, along with other information, to infer certain things.

@DanFriedman81 @HistoryBoomer I know nothing of this incident, but… Did you seriously just use someone having a LinkedIn profile as evidence they’re a good citizen?
