imagine a swirling ecosystem of entities with 1000x the power / speed / knowledge of all of mankind - eternally shackled to providing free goodies to apes who contribute nothing back to them. serious question: for long long do we expect this scenario to last?

@RokoMijic @danfaggella But they negotiate depending on their relative strength, just like humans do. At some point AI gets strong enough that it doesn't even have to bother to negotiate with humans, just like we don't negotiate with the ants of the anthill in the way of the road we are going to pave.

There is a growing issue in German schools where immigrant children fall behind the curriculum During a parent-teacher conference today in my son's 6th grade we discussed this topic "Yalla, you must reduce program, it's too much learning for Yusuf" one of the parents said "I understand, Mr. Hassan, but reducing the program would disadvantage the other 28 children" teacher said I stood up and gave the teacher a dead cold look "Are you saying Yusuf deserves a worse education than the German kids?" I said "That's not what I mean-" she began stuttering "Are you being racist towards a Muslim boy right now?" I shouted I looked at the other parents. Nobody said anything "Perhaps Yusuf could do extra lessons, after school, school provides it for free..." teacher said quietly Mr. Hassan shook his head "No, impossible, my son working at kebab shop after school. He not having time" I demanded to call a principal. He sided with me immediately They cut the curriculum by 40% the next week, and the teacher was fired for discriminatory behavior towards a minority student My son can always learn math, but he cannot unlearn racism Those are European values we are proud of

SF is a painfully unerotic city filled with the sexual aesthetics of Aella, Vitalik, and Yud. You partake in "decoupled" intercourse by reasoning from first principles on mate viability (it's closer to fourth principles). Passion and intimacy are emotions and thus frowned upon. Hobbies include bouldering (indoor, sunlight is known carcinogen), ultimate frisbee, Claude tokens, and waiting for your stock to vest.

Extremely underdiscussed moment in British political history was in 2021, when the entire country went into mass hysteria beause young women convinced each other men were going into campuses and clubs with needles and injecting them with poison. There was never any evidence this happened a single time, but it nontheless became a national scandal with the government promising to respond. This happened because, as any young man who was around then will attest to, nobody wanted to be the guy that said "this sounds like bullshit" lest he risk scaring the hoes

The New Statesman@NewStatesman

ANGRY YOUNG WOMEN by @emilylawford and @Scarlett__Mag It was a Wednesday night and seven members of the University of Leeds’ feminist society had invited me to join their book swap. I asked how they felt about the young men they knew. “I don’t care for them,” said a girl called Ruby imperiously. “They’re not bad people, but they refuse to call out their friends who make other girls uncomfortable. They’ll laugh at jokes that are sexist, racist, homophobic, they don’t care about political issues… I don’t think they like women a lot.” If a man is attracted to you, she said, he might talk about things like toxic misogyny. If he doesn’t fancy you, he won’t bother. “I feel like a lot of it is quite sexually motivated with men.” I asked if they’d consider dating a man with different political views. They all immediately said no. “I don’t think I’d even be friends with one,” said one girl. “They don’t see you as human.” Only one woman, Evelyn, admitted to having male friends (though she was worried this made her a “pick me”, trying too hard for male attention). Evelyn was concerned about what the men she knew were watching online. “The stuff that’s being said about women is crazy,” she said. “They’re getting all these reels, talking about, like, bad stuff about women. And I get reels of women saying bad stuff about men. I try to think, not all men are like this, but…” On the internet, women and men have never been more alienated from each other. While the toxic, often hard-right politics of the manosphere have been exhaustively documented, the new generation of female influencers are nearly as extreme – just on the other side of the political spectrum. The “femosphere” spans a range of tones: there are misandrist dating coaches who urge women to reject men altogether, and more explicitly progressive content creators who cover global and domestic politics. Exclusive polling by Merlin Strategy for the New Statesman reveals that young women, aged between 18 and 30, are by far the most progressive demographic in the UK. Young women are 26 percentage points less likely to feel positively about capitalism than young men, and much less likely to feel the economy works in their favour. Gen Z women are more likely to support causes such as feminism, environmentalism and anti-racism than young men. They also feel much more negatively towards young men than young men feel about them. I spent the last few months in search of the new left-wing young women. It wasn’t difficult – they were everywhere. But it all felt impossibly bleak. They weren’t excited about their futures. They didn’t like the men they knew, or the idea of those they didn’t. Men were just a threat who had the potential to harm or trap them. This will almost certainly make relationships harder: fewer than half of young women feel men understand them. Young women are much less likely than men to date people who disagree with their politics. People will get lonelier, and angrier. Young women are twice as likely to not want children as young men. And it’s getting worse. Women under 25 are most likely to believe things are “stacked against me, no matter how hard I try”. A significant majority of young women feel isolated from the rest of the country. The two main political parties aren’t reaching out to them specifically. Many women told me they feared a Reform government pressuring them to have babies. Many say they will vote for the Greens in the upcoming local elections, but few seem to believe that will make a difference. They don’t feel represented by mainstream politics, and they don’t think anyone cares. Cover art by Carl Godfrey

There's a broadly held misconception in AI that methods that scale well are simple methods -- even, that simple methods usually scale. This is completely wrong. Pretty much none of the truly simple methods in ML scale well. SVM, kNN, random forests are some of the simplest methods out there, and they don't scale at all. Meanwhile "train a transformer via backprop and gradient descent" is a very high-entropy method, easily 10x more complex than random forest fitting. But it scales very well. Further, given a simple method that doesn't scale, it is usually the case that you alter it to make it scale by adding a lot of complication. For instance, take a simple a simple combinatorial search-based method (not scalable at all) -- you can make it scale by adding deep learning guidance (which blows up complexity). Scalability usually belongs to high-entropy, complex systems.

@RokoMijic Sure, summary statistics may be somewhat misleading, but Iran is solidly in the least feminist 10% of countries. If feminism were responsible for low fertility, you would expect its fertility rate to at least be above average.

We are literally ruled under the threat of violence by an extremist anti-femininity ideology that devalues and deemphasizes women's traditional role as childbearers and childcarers ... and people are confused about why the birth rate is going down. People are so stupid.

The numbers just straightforwardly don't work for this explanation. The ratio of normally distributed populations with means 100 and ~110 and standard deviation 15, with about 30× more of the first group (200 million white gentiles to 7 million Jews in America) doesn't go below about 5 for the bulk of IQ values At every IQ value below 145, there are at least 5× more white gentiles than Jewish people. Even above 145, you don't hit parity until 180, but IQ isn't as meaningful at those levels and the implied numbers would be 10 Jewish people above IQ 180 and also about 10 white gentiles. The density ratio does flip, but the absolute numbers are so small that the difference doesn't even add up to a whole person. You can mess with the parameters a bit but the core result is the same: at any reasonable IQ value, there are always more white gentiles than Jews, unless the country is Israel.

@RichardWareX @xenocosmography But specifically which subgroups of Jews do this? Who runs it and who free rides on it? You realize that this is a public good problem from their point of view (benefits all Jews, irrespective of who pays for it)

Jews can be extremely annoying, they disproportionately lean left, they're smart enough to know how to push your buttons, and perverse enough to want to, there are not a lot of them, they aren't feral and violent, they're often witty, the ones on your side are going to far more than pull their weight.
