@MagicBendy @ThrillaRilla369 That sounds awful. I am out of touch with workplace development. They sent us to multiple silly, costly training workshops and conferences.

They don’t do that anymore. They usually put you with people you’ve never met or worked with, give you Lego parts that don’t actually build anything or that are mixed with parts from something else, or are missing key parts…then tell you to assemble them into something without any directions. Stupid crap like that. It’s supposed to teach everyone about leadership and recognizing the ideas of others and the importance of communication. And executives and HR think those exercises are both helpful and fun for employees…when they are neither.

A neurodivergent person with a 1pm appointment cannot do anything before the appointment. cannot start a task. cannot eat. cannot focus. cannot relax. the entire morning belongs to the 1pm. and we will still be 4 minutes late.

@mistressdivy It is important to try to give them some grace. Most recognize that when they grow older. Realizing that you saw them through the eyes of a child and rethinking it as an adult helps.

Healing as an adult is realizing your parents were just kids with kids.

@Xyleniqq That period of being an adult is grueling. You feel like you have run a gauntlet every day. I simply accepted it as normal and felt inept. Retirement made me wonder how I managed and why our best years are eaten up by it.

No one is explaining how we’re supposed to wake up, commute or log in, survive 8+ hours of fake urgency, cook healthy meals, exercise, maintain relationships, raise kids if we have them, and still have anything left for ourselves. This schedule was clearly designed by someone who’s never lived it.

@kelly_ques I have one niece who is my no filter relationship. We can say anything to each other. My "friend" of 25 years also knows and accepts me. I think you need to do some filtering with many people you love.

My mom cried on her birthday because I waited until 5:30 PM to call her. Yeah, you read that right. I'm 30, she's 74. I finished work, picked up the phone, and wished her a happy birthday. To me, that's a normal evening call. But she was so upset I hadn't called or texted earlier that day, she actually started crying on the phone. Now I feel like the absolute worst person for making her emotional on her special day, but I'm also really taken aback by the whole thing. Was I in the wrong?

Totally inaccurate. I don't expect them to go to the lengths I did as it dominated 20 years.
