Hungary’s incoming PM has said that Viktor Orbán used Hungarian government funds to help finance CPAC, the flagship networking event for GOP candidates, members of Congress, and conservative media in this country. Under U.S. law, that is not just a Hungarian problem. Foreign governments are barred from spending money in American elections, and Americans are forbidden from soliciting or accepting it. If these allegations are true, this is a direct attack on the integrity of American democracy. We need a full investigation by Congress, the FEC, and the DOJ. While he continues to peddle his followers the fairy tale of the "America First" patriot, his administration is secretly forging an alliance with Vladimir Putin—the man Trump has revered for years as his great dictator role model. Instead of acting openly, he is using Belarus as a dirty back door to quietly overturn sanctions against Russia. His exact words: “I believe the state should never have financed them in the first place, it was a crime.” He is opening a criminal probe in Hungary. This demands a parallel investigation here. Federal law bars any foreign national, including a foreign government, from directly or indirectly giving money or anything of value in connection with a U.S. election. It also bars any American from soliciting or accepting it. CPAC is the flagship networking event for Republican candidates, members of Congress, and the conservative political operation. Money flowing from a foreign government into that ecosystem is exactly what the statute was written to stop. We need answers. How much did Orbán’s government send? Who received it? What was it spent on? Did any of it underwrite electioneering, candidate travel, or political messaging in the United States? Congress should demand records. The FEC and DOJ should open formal investigations. CPAC should disclose every dollar received from any Hungarian government entity or state-linked institution. I cannot imagine how Ukrainians feel hearing US leaders are not standing by US’s promise to protect them, to ensure their freedom, or to fight for their right for democracy. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) voted with Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to strip President Trump of his war powers today. The resolution was narrowly rejected by the House, 214-213. Massie was confronted about being a traitor and essentially said he’s fine with Iran having nukes because he has TDS. Siding with Democrats in Congress on anything is siding with the enemy.
