Some deem it divine retribution - a penance for rebellion. Others, a cosmic duel between good and evil. Yet the enigma persists: Why does the battle endure? Two millennia post-Calvary, the faithful still grapple. The battlefield eludes sight, yet its echoes reverberate. Our strategy? Our leader? The truth crystallizes: We fight not against flesh and blood, but against unseen principalities. Our battleground? The human heart - the theater of choices. Our strategy? The armor of God - truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word. Our leader? The One who conquered death - the risen Christ. robsonbeans.com/2020/05/28/theโ€ฆ

The ones in support think/know theyโ€™ll benefit from the amendment. They also donโ€™t really care about what implications this has for anyone else alive or future generations. In other words, theyโ€™re selfish people who have no respect for the rule of law and do not have any moral compass.

Am I the only one who is genuinely shocked by ordinary Zimbabweans who arenโ€™t in power, or in business, are poor and downtrodden, and yet support the plan to have their rights to directly elect the President stripped away and given to a small group of people who can be easily bought or manipulated, and canโ€™t be said to be truly representative for this purpose since theyโ€™re elected via first-past-the-post with its obvious baggage of gerrymandering, rather than proportional representation? I mean, whatโ€™s the thought process in such Zimbabweans? Why would anyone co-operate actively in their own disempowerment?๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

The children of Zimbabwean diaspora parents grow up in two worlds and belong fully to neither. They are too Zimbabwean for their peers and too foreign for kumusha. It sounds more like confusion but, that is a new identity being formed. Diaspora parents: do you raise your children to identify primarily as Zimbabwean or as citizens of your host country?

@FigoTongai In my experience, you can all be in the group but whatโ€™s expected from each group member is not the same. But I agree, isolating yourself may not be a permanent solution.

Being Zimbabwean in the diaspora means carrying a country in your chest. Not the country it is. The country it was supposed to be. That weight is both burden and identity.

SADC as a bloc has never once meaningfully pressured a member state on human rights. It is a club, not a community and it rewards longevity not governance.

Happy to engage further. I laid out the full case in the replies to the original post, drawing from Alois Mlamboโ€™s A History of Zimbabwe. The short version: Black Friday 1997. DRC 1998. Fast Track 2000. 6 million needing food aid by November 2002. ZIDERA arrived after all of it. I acknowledge sanctions contributed to investment flight. But they cannot be the author of a collapse that was already three years old when they arrived. The sequence is the argument.

@BeansRobson Sanctions destroyed the economy while gearing it for local ownership that has now seen the current high growth and wealth creation. Context is everything.

Robert Mugabe built more schools than any leader in African history. He also destroyed the economy that was supposed to pay for them. Legacy is complicated.

Every Zimbabwean who left to work abroad and sends money home is running a more effective development programme than ZIMSTAT has run in a decade. Remittances are Africa's most efficient foreign aid.

@T_Chakoroma @zeustheman05 Thatโ€™s very commendable. I do not have anything against that. My question is, are you saying all the schools and universities built post independence were funded by parents from their own pockets?

@BeansRobson @SeanXrazz My Brother, he had refused to heed to the Veteran's demands for almost 20 years. MDC campaigned with land reform as a talking point and it was more popular than ZUM, who had done the same but he still ignored them RG wanted to win elections, so he had no choice but to give in

@mulinge_muteti_ Lenin wrote Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism in 1916, arguing that capitalism inevitably evolves into monopoly capital, which then requires imperial expansion to find new markets, cheap labour, and raw materials.

What we are witnessing is a crisis of capitalism. Every cycle ultimately ends in war, death and destruction. The world will only achieve lasting peace after the overthrow of capitalism.
