@WormsofWrath @EVCurveFuturist Like I said, lucky for the shipping company
English

@BeeVee23 @EVCurveFuturist You think they'll dive to gather evidence?
Short search and I'll say no.

@WormsofWrath @EVCurveFuturist It'll be costly, diving off the Aleutians
English

@BeeVee23 @EVCurveFuturist Bad for the ship owners - delayed payout. Insurance still pursues the car shippers and manufacturers to get them to pay for it, prior to settling claim.
English

@WormsofWrath @EVCurveFuturist I don't know about nine ro-ro ferries, but certainly this Morning Midas one looks dreadful. It's handy for the owners that the ship sank to avoid any possibility of attribution, so the insurance claim can go through unchallenged
English

@BeeVee23 @EVCurveFuturist EVs have sunk 9 ro-ro ships! No other ro-ro ship has ever sank! Latest one is was the Morning Midas. 800 EVs among 3000 cars destroyed, ship totally lost.
Most EV ship wrecks happen in Europe.

Yesterday #wind produced 45.3% of British electricity, more than imports 16.7%, gas 11.9%, nuclear 8.1%, solar 7.4%, biomass 6.9%, other 2.4%, hydro 1.4%, *excl. non-renewable distributed generation

...and hotter and hotter and hotter and people will be asking why their now impoverished governments aren't doing anything and they'll say, "we tried, but people wanted us to ditch our net zero requirements"
Bill McGuire@ProfBillMcGuire
' "above-average temperatures" are expected for each of the months of June, July and August, and "significant bursts" of heat are expected in the UK and across Europe ' No surprise to see 40C+ this summer and next After that it will keep getting hotter bbc.co.uk/weather/articlโฆ

@StewartNial @EVCurveFuturist I always want to learn more. If you're saying that nuclear is cheaper than renewables I need evidence before I start promoting it. If you're saying that coal is cheaper than renewables, I'd want costing for air pollution and sickness. Tell me more

@BeeVee23 @EVCurveFuturist "Climate change affirmer"
No you wouldn't. ๐
English

@StewartNial @EVCurveFuturist Have you got some figures for that that I can see? I'd like to learn more
English

@BeeVee23 @EVCurveFuturist When you take backup and grid costs into account, gas, coal, nuclear (the S Koreans are building nuclear plants for $8Bn ).

"Leaders who depend on imported fuel increasingly see solar, batteries, electric transport, and efficiency not as political burdens but as tools for containing the price shocks that drive their citizens into the streets. For the first time in the climate era, public interest in cheap, secure clean power and political interest in regime continuity point in the same direction"

The worst heat pump is more efficient than the best gas boiler.
A gas boiler turns one unit of energy into less than one unit of heat.
A heat pump delivers 3 to 4 units of heat for every unit of input.

@StewartNial @EVCurveFuturist What cheaper sources? Name them
English

@EVCurveFuturist And yet we have renewables forced on us when cheaper sources are available.
English

@EVCurveFuturist @WormsofWrath That and battery chemistry is changing to further mitigate. All that, plus you weren't talking about EVs, but static batteries, which are commonly Sodium-Ion so no Lithium
English

@WormsofWrath If lithium battery fires were as common as you suggest, we'd be seeing thousands of them every day. Instead, EVs have accumulated billions of kilometres with fire rates generally lower than ICE vehicles.
English

@derrick_dao @AssaadRazzouk MNC isn't the only battery chemistry
English

@AssaadRazzouk The demand signal from Laos's EV mandate scales across ASEAN. A 30% EV penetration target by 2030, replicated across 700M people at similar inflection points, pulls forward lithium, cobalt, and manganese demand the supply chain isn't positioned to meet.
English

Laos just implemented a total ban on all petrol- and diesel-vehicle imports, to at least end-2026
>EV and hybrid sales are already 36% of new sales
>Laos wants 30% of all vehicles on the road to be electric by 2030, so EVs will be 75% to 100% of all vehicle sales over the next few years (that's just the math)
>Laos bleeds $1.27b/year on refined petroleum imports alone, in a country with a GDP of $17b. Laos has zero domestic oil reserves and imports 100% of its refined petroleum products. That's macro-economic suicide for a hydro powerhouse with 26.5GW of water-based energy potential, positioned as the โbattery of SE Asiaโ. The ban will drastically cut that import bill
