In the golf biz if you’re a pga pro most courses will take care of you if you call ahead, perks of the business.
I wonder if professional bowling has the same brotherhood? Flash your PBA card and get comped?
@bunkeredgolf Worked on a course and routinely found lots of things: lighters, cigar cutters, warm beers. The strangest has to either be a snorkel or a thong wrapped around the steering wheel. Different days.
Mallet or Blade?
We analyzed ~20,000 rounds in Stack Putting.
Golfers complete simulated 18-hole rounds (4–30 ft putts) on a practice green. Results, handicap, and putter type are recorded, and strokes gained is calculated vs a chosen handicap.
📊 SG (vs 12 hcp):
• Blade: 0.74
• Mallet: 0.59
• Mid-mallet: 0.38
Average handicap was nearly identical across groups.
The differences are real—but small relative to player variability.
Blades are associated with slightly better results… but this isn’t great science. It’s observational, not causal.
The takeaway
Across:
• Overall performance
• Holed percentage
• Strokes gained
• Multiple distances
• Paired tester analysis
Mallet putters consistently outperformed blades.
That doesn’t mean every golfer must switch.
But if you care about performance…
The data strongly favors mallets.
Blade vs Mallet Putters — What the Data Actually Says
We analyzed 43,000+ putts using our algorithm and the @PuttView testing system to answer a simple question:
Do mallet putters outperform blades?
Short answer:
Yes. And it’s not particularly close.
Here’s what we found 👇
1️⃣ Overall Performance
2.6 stroke advantage for mallets.
And it wasn’t just one or two golfers skewing the results.
(85%) testers putted better with a mallet.
