These last few days I’ve read some things about Berengaria that I didn’t really like and well, I just want to rant over how awesome she was and what a wonderful wife Richard I had.
So Berengaria was the eldest daughter of the king Sancho of Navarre. She was raised with duty, discipline, and expectations. As a princess from Navarre (Spain), she was educated in a way that could have led her toward becoming a nun, you may say that was her dream before being promised to one English king.
But as a woman of the day, her duty was both to God and to her father.
And so, her life took a completely different turn very suddenly. Richard arranged their marriage with the king Sancho and that was it.
She was married off to Richard the Lionheart, one of the most famous and absent kings in history. To begin with, he asked for her to be brought to him in Sicily where he was preparing for the crusade. The road to Messina wasn’t easy and this was the first time she had travelled far from home and alone - she had Eleanor but was ripped away from her family whom she loved. To marry a stranger in a foreign land in the middle of a war.
Their marriage was political, rushed, and immediately shaped by war. Leaving everything behind, crossing dangerous territories, only to marry a man who would spend most of his life away from her. And yet Berengaria adapted. I could swear she loved him from how tales are told and he cared for her too (But of course his great love would always be war and she could barely compete).
They married after she had survived the Good Friday storm and Isaac Kommenos threatening her life. And then her new husband took her to live in the middle of a siege in Acre, later moving around between Acre and Jaffa in a land she never imagined living in, with the dangers of war a daily occurrence. She never complained and this isn’t about a submissive woman, Berenguela (how Richard liked to call her) was anything but. Few women would have endured all this without complain. Her strength was in her faith, her duty to her husband and God, and her honor.
Maybe we’ve grown distant to this type of female strength and examples.
She became Queen of England, even though she barely set foot in the country. She dealt with long separations, uncertainty, and a husband whose priorities were often elsewhere. And still, she maintained her dignity, her position, and her influence in a world that gave women very little space to be remembered.
After Richard’s death, she didn’t just fade away either: she continued to rule her own lands, fought for her rights, and showed real political resilience. She’s a perfect example of how many medieval women were strong, capable, and influential in ways history doesn’t always highlight.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
@walperabend This is a men who already taste a luxury
I have a rich cousin, she said that her mother only allowed her to eat instant noodles like once a week, even tho she loved noodle so much, so she envy me for i can eat that everyday
I eat instant noodles not by choice btw... 🤣
@AzemLavellan And i think u really showcase his capability of that trait of him in this snip. Really need more scene of him show tell, like how he used to 'lead' Nitokh in his scheme. He may use his charm to us, drifter even if it's for the sake of his sweet revenge 🤣
@AzemLavellan Gosh, u are such a genius with u'r words. Yes, I've already read all of the chaps, and can't wait for next. I think this snippet it's delicious, just bcs Roathe now fall in true love doesn't mean he is no longer the cunning strategist Orokin in game of mind that he is...
@wwxwashere IMO, Personal criticism it's fine until u attack or judge other IRL fans for just loving the characters u dislike. Hate on character without lore and the cause in consideration.
Tbf, if the criticism come from u'r personal morale value then just keep it for u'rself
@dealer_rat@wwxwashere It's just that bcs of this there is a loud minority who also judge the fans of this kind of characters. Like "oh, u must be a bad person in RL just bcs u like this character, bcs this fictional character is-... (insert personal criticism)"
Yeah, borderline cross fandom etiquette
@wwxwashere huh? what's wrong with criticising what a fictional character did? they're not real so it's not bullying, art can parallel to life and it can be very beneficial actually. Why consume a story where no character can be criticised?
🚨Breaking news!🚨 Rebecca Ford the creative director of warframe confirmed a SEX UPDATE in the near future, "we really want to alleviate the player experience by adding intercoures with protoframes and your favorite frames" she says.
@RegneLent It's so nice to see there is a possibility where he had some regrets for Berengaria. Some said that Richard hold little interest for his wife that no child born frm their marriage and bcs of that after he died she suffer alots and had to fight for her own right of alimony
@cvntfyre@favoritafortuna *gasp* "ohh no... There is incest in my fiction about a family dynasty that practice incest!! Why would i even bother to engage into the story that did not aligned with my personal morale, i wonder? Hmph! Must be the fans who loves this material at fault!!"
Sounds pretty much so
@favoritafortuna scary how many targ “fans” find a way to justify targaryen incest even though it’s not necessaryfor being a fan at all. you seem to have taken the idea of incest as a generational issue quite literally.
sorry but Targaryen's are not Targaryen's without the incest. They are genetically designed to crave their relatives and would not exist without it. Even in the modern world, they would find a way to be attracted to one another
@favoritafortuna So funny to read all the Rqt of a mere comment accusing me of being a eugenist 🤣 over my own personal opinion for a fictional family.
This is why u shouldn't link fictional material with reality, folks on internet! Context and lore it's a matter and important
@favoritafortuna IMO, It's in their Valyrian genetics trait i guess, i mean... If u'r family had the most unique, otherworldly beauty and rare genetic mutations i would not easily attracted to average outsider. U'r eyes basically used to a beauty from u'r own family
@elf69237518@bestoftheblacks What. U don't even deny my insult? Is true ur father don't remeber u 🤣Her family's is Royal and filthy rich and she is just a fictional character and u are real but u'r father don't even know u... 🥲
@Black_Chalk19@bestoftheblacks Her father was pedophile rapist. Her husband was pedophile rapist. Her father and hysband killed their first wifes. Slut was pedophile, rasist, failed in everything
@Kekius_Sage Idc, me as a gen Z just want a stable life and income. I even had no interest on moving into a big city, yet again big country like America. Too crowded and busy for me... Even if there's an opportunity i think rhe lose on me is so much more than what i can gain...
@hualianarchive IMO, "wife or huband" it's more like someone's role in a function like a breadwinner or a home maker.
Bcs in practice there is so much case of a women taking the role of a "husband" even she should be the wife at the family and vice versa.
So, in u'r fiction what's is his role?
