Day 215 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: I don’t believe there are many things that are truly impossible. Everything just has a price tag. The question shouldn’t be “can I do this” it should be “what is the price and am I willing to pay it?”.

Day 213 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: Good hour-plus on the mat today. Nothing super intense, just drilling and working on positions. Something I keep telling myself: fast but not in a rush. I get nervous and wrestle erratically. I also hold my breath when I get in pressure positions and that gasses me out. Have to keep my feet moving and chill out.

Day 211 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: My leg defense is not good. I am used to being a short heavyweight. Nobody ever got under me and to my legs. This is basically a different sport. But we are working at it and getting better.

Day 210 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: 210 days seems like a long time. Doesn’t feel like it, though. Time passes anyway. Just becomes part of the routine. Felt good on the mat today. Weight is good. Body feels good. Eating well. 28 days until Vegas.

Day 208 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: My body could feel the immediate impact of nutrition, hydration, warming up thoroughly today. Felt like garbage yesterday. Got to the room early and warmed up for a half hour. Loaded carbs on the front side of the day. Night and day difference 24 hours apart.

Day 207 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: Was out late last night, had dinner out and felt like absolutely trash wrestling today. Very bad. Not all days will be perfect, though. Have been on the mat 3-4x a week. That is what I need. Not being a weight room warrior. 30 days until Vegas.

Day 206 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: Mind and body away from wrestling today. Wife and I spent the day in the city celebrating our anniversary. She has never been to a wrestling match but supports my ridiculous side quest heroically. I am very lucky.

Day 205 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: Was on the mat the past 3 days. Lifted today. Rest day tomorrow. Lead leg is sore as hell. Not from the injury just from drilling. Deron asks me how do I enter ties from space. I was like uh idk like this. A lot of work to be done.

Day 201 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: Doc cleared me today. He didn’t really remember me. I was like no pain am I good to go back? Assuming I’m the center of his universe and he remembered everything we spoke about a month ago. Though he should have had some notes. Anyway, he said “Yep. Cleared to go back. Pickleball, right?” I said .. no, wrestling. Cleared me regardless but immediately got a lift in when I returned because apparently I am build like a pickleball player. I was wearing baggy clothes, ok.

Day 197 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: Feel very good today. Should be fine to wrestle next week. Half an hour warming my body up on the airdyne then a high-effort upper lift today. Definitely strong. Want to be on the mat every day leading up to Vegas. This is not a fitness competition. Need to get better at wrestling.

Day 196 of training for Veteran’s Nationals with @BuFuApp: Last week the physical therapist had me do a ton of calf exercises to see how I felt. No pain but a ton of volume. Both calves were sore for a few days. That masked how the bad one was actually feeling. Woke up a little tight today so it was a recovery day. Light half hour on the airdyne and 20 mins in the hot tub. I don’t want to have to hold anything back in this spring leading into Vegas. It’s still not 100%. Doctor appointment on Monday. I want to be right for that and get cleared to wrestle.
