California drivers are getting ripped off. Today’s gas price: $5.62. We pay the highest gas taxes in the nation. But our roads rank 49th out of 50. Let that sink in. We’re paying more at the pump, more in fees, and more in car repairs… just to drive on crumbling, pothole-filled roads. Where is the money going? Stop charging us premium prices for bottom-tier results. #California #GasPrices #CostOfLiving #Potholes @CASenReps

We stood with victims today because California’s parole system is broken. I have fought to stop these early releases and protect our communities, but the Democratic supermajority blocked it. Now I am continuing that fight with SB 906 to bring transparency so the parole board cannot hide while they let out monsters like Funston and Gregory Vogelsang, who was sentenced to 355 years to life for horrific crimes against children. They cannot keep hiding while predators are walking free! #FixCalifornia

This is a BIG WIN. A violent criminal’s release has been stopped - for now. After sustained pressure and proposed reforms that I’ve supported to fix California’s reckless parole system, he remains in jail. But the fight continues. No one who still threatens our communities should be released early. Government’s first duty is public safety - and this program puts Californians at risk.
Josh Hoover@joshua_hoover

HUGE WIN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY: This morning we gathered out front of the Board of Parole Hearings to oppose the release of sexually violent predator Gregory Vogelsang back into our community. Today our voices were heard. After previously being recommended for release, we just got word from CDCR that the Parole Board has decided to delay Vogelsang’s parole and refer him to a rescission hearing within the next 6 months. This means two things. First, and most importantly, Vogelsang WILL NOT BE RELEASED back into our community this week as expected. These hearings are rarely more than a rubber stamp, but thanks to those who spoke out and the public pressure that was created we now have a real chance to keep him behind bars. Second, it means he will now have another hearing in the next few months to determine if his parole should be officially postponed or canceled. We will keep you up to date on when this hearing will be. So what’s next? While this is a huge victory for the safety of our community, we must make sure that he stays behind bars for good at the next hearing. We have also heard that, thanks to significant public backlash, Governor Newsom is now considering some of the reforms to the Elderly Parole Program that we announced today. Only a change in the law will ensure more dangerous criminals are not released back into our neighborhoods.

A California senator is pushing a plan to lower gas prices by $1 a gallon. State Sen. Strickland told "Inside the Issues" host @AmritSingh his proposal would temporarily suspend the state gas tax for a year, as lawmakers work on solutions for affordability.

Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil Highlights Strong Community and Legislative Momentum on Wildfire Risk Reduction and Insurance Affordability Package SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) has spent the past three weeks promoting her Wildfire Risk Reduction & Insurance Affordability Bills Package in Sacramento and across Senate District 4, highlighting the urgent need to protect rural California communities from wildfire threats and to tackle insurance challenges. "Wildfire risk, insurance access, and community safety are among the most pressing concerns for the residents of Senate District 4," said Senator Alvarado-Gil. On Saturday, Senator Alvarado-Gil visited the Logtown Fire Safe Council in El Dorado County, where she engaged in a productive and passionate discussion with dedicated residents, local leaders, and fire safety advocates. The meeting focused on the real-world impacts of wildfire threats, skyrocketing insurance costs, and the FAIR Plan challenges facing homeowners in high-risk areas. Attendees shared their experiences and strong support for proactive solutions that prioritize prevention, resilience, and affordability. Building on that community momentum, Senator Alvarado-Gil led a press conference on Tuesday at the Capitol, joined by Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones, Senator Shannon Grove, and Senator Kelly Seyarto who each discussed their fire mitigation and affordability bills. Cal Fire Local 2881 President Tim Edwards, El Dorado Fire Protection District Chief Tim Cordero, and other respected fire chiefs from across the region were also present to support the effort. "From heartfelt conversations with passionate locals at Logtown to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with legislative leaders and frontline fire chiefs today, it's clear that we must act decisively. My bills and those of my colleagues put prevention, resilience, and financial relief first, because no Californian should face losing their home or being priced out of insurance due to wildfire threats” said Senator Alvarado-Gil. Looking ahead, Senator Alvarado-Gil will continue her district-wide listening tour with multiple stops in Senate District 4 to discuss her package directly with residents. These town halls and community meetings will provide opportunities to hear firsthand from those affected, share details on the proposed legislation, and build broader support for meaningful reforms. Individuals or organizations interested in hosting such an event, or participating in these important conversations are encouraged to contact Kevin O'Neil at kevin.o'neil@sen.ca.gov in the Senator’s Capitol office.

I am deeply saddened for the victims of Cesar Chavez who have had to carry this secret for decades while every year people celebrate, march, and dedicate a holiday in his name. I hope that people reconsider celebrating Cesar Chavez Day and instead celebrate our incredible farm workers who feed and fuel our nation with Farm Worker Day. kcra.com/article/dolore…

I'm disappointed and frustrated that my bill, a practical solution to offer a lifeline for drivers to lower the price of gas by $1.08, did not pass out of Senate Committee today. While this is a setback, I remain committed to fighting for policies that bring real relief to families and small businesses and advance solutions that make California more affordable. #caleg #FuelCA @CASenReps

I’ve warned over and over that giving CARB more power would drive up energy costs and gas prices. Now, even they’re admitting their latest tax-and-spend scheme has gone too far. That’s exactly why I’m continuing to push legislation to rein them in. #FixCailfornia nypost.com/2026/03/15/us-…

I am introducing legislation to change Caesar Chavez Day to Farmworkers Day in CA. As the daughter and granddaughter of farmworkers, this is deeply personal. The legacy of farmworkers belongs to families like mine across California—not to any one individual. Renaming this day is about honoring the people who do the work, while being honest about our history. Senator Valladares, fellow Republican lawmakers introduce legislation to recognize California’s farmworkers as the unsung heroes of agriculture sr23.senate.ca.gov/content/senato…

California lawmakers are facing pressure to do more oversight into the state's 911 system upgrades. Taxpayers already spent $450 million on a system Cal OES no longer wants to use. Cal OES had a tough time answering this question in hearing today: "Are we safe?"

The exodus continues. Wealthy Californians are selling multimillion-dollar homes and moving to Las Vegas, where there is no state income tax. They can buy bigger homes, pay lower taxes, and keep more of what they earn. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it keeps happening. Democratic policies are driving taxpayers out of California. #FixCalifornia realtor.com/news/trends/af…
