Timothy Gordon (Rules for Retrogrades Show)
Hands down, @JayDyer, who I've debated twice: both times Jay reached across the gap the moment the debate ended and apologized for any heat-of-the-moment overaggressions, then bought my entire large family a meal (both times we hung out and had fun for multi-hours); at those meals, Jay and his wife @JamieLHanshaw (who watched movies in the green room with a Gordon child during one of the debates) were each exceedingly kind to my kids and wife; also, Jay regularly expresses a generosity of time (first time we ever met, Jay and Jamie drove hours to meet me out at @ElliottHulse's house); also, generosity of resources via unsolicited sharing of his connections, rather than just asking for my connections. I have every confidence that @Trent_Horn is a good-hearted family man who loves Jesus, but tbh he needs to learn the sort of magnanimity which makes friends out of foes: at our debates, he never expressed any species of any of Jay's generosities. In fact, I brought him a signed copy of my book (the exchange of which is standard) and he left it there at the studio lmao! I've invited Trent and his wife to meals and onto my show, for couples discussion with my wife, and he responded that his wife didn't trust strangers or something (this was only shortly before she made skits mocking said "strangers": myself, my brother, my wife). To be fair, last time in Dallas, we had plans to get a friendly coffee, but his family got the flu. I'm 100% down to make this happen eventually, hopefully with Steph and Laura present. Burying the hatchet is what Christian men do. But I'm never sure that's what he wants: communion with "mean" men with myself or Jay, which presents a striking irony. Perhaps Trent ought to begin looking at Jay as an exemplar of generosity, instead of pettily exaggerating a single flaw as if it means more than it does
Mitchell@ScottsOriole

@timotheeology Do you think Trent’s disposition or spirit is more Christlike than Dyer or yourself or the other way around?

@CatholicPrimer @SlowpokeCon @ArchangeloRom @syd_bee3 Strawman. If, for example, a woman has poor health and has been instructed to not have children for a few years and the husband struggles with lust, their priest may bless NFP for their salvation, as the prospect of adultery or self-abuse may be far more dangerous.

Catholics claim EO has “no consensus” on marriage or contraception, when EO does. They just assume the papal magisterial model to the church when it didn’t operate that way in the first 1000 years. Ironically they're the most rigid on paper yet use annulment loopholes to pretend marriages never existed (raising awkward questions about the legitimacy of the children). It’s pharisaical. We’ve always practiced economia, just as the West did in the first millenia. Remarriage isn’t encouraged, it’s rarely approved, and requires bishop approval (usually only in cases like abandonment), and the service is deliberately somber and penitential bc it values marriage highly. We deal with the realities of fallen human life rather than creating legal fictions. Even their own Vatican docs (Chieti & Alexandria) admit the early Church operated through consensus and collegiality, not papal monarchy. The “messy history” argument isn’t a defeater, RCC shares those same “messy” centuries.

> born in traditional Roman Catholic home in New England > entered seminary at 17 > became a reactionary liberal in response to institutionalized NOrmie conservative Catholicism > realized that progressive Catholicism was inextricably tied to banal liturgy and moral confusion > “Lex orandi, lex credendi”; re-embraced the TLM > realized I didn’t have to choose between Catholic social teaching and traditional liturgy, became trad > left seminary in 2016 to pursue academic path > became Orthodox inquirer after wrestling with questions of papal infallibility & jurisdiction, messy history of the Church > realized that in the early Church, papal primacy carried with it *actual* jurisdictional authority (not just “primacy of honor”) > realized that in the Eastern Orthodox world, there is no consensus as to what constitutes a valid baptism; some jurisdictions rebaptize Catholics, others just receive via Chrismation; realized that the concept of “economy” was used to mask major ecclesiological issues > realized that Eastern Orthodox teaching on contraception and divorce & remarriage was a capitulation to then-Imperial pressure and was less about the Gospel’s call to asceticism and theosis > realized the importance of being in communion with Rome as a mark of full catholicity > officially became Eastern Catholic (Melkite) > happily Catholic, irenic and warm to EOs and Protestants, praying they enter full communion with Christ’s Holy and Catholic Church

@SlowpokeCon @ArchangeloRom @syd_bee3 That’s right. This doesn’t make sense to you because in RC everything needs to be answered and applied globally. Whereas in Orthodoxy, we have dogma and doctrines that never change and then on a per-issue basis, we have Ekonomia. We disagree on how to apply this sometimes.

Dear, @elonmusk Do you realize what you're doing? I don't have any followers from Türkiye. We were so happy when you bought Twitter. You don't realize what you're doing; it's like you made this decision while drunk. I love you so much. But this is not humanity! What you're doing is literally cruel!

Nikita Bier says Creator Payouts will now be affected by the user’s location. But told me personally I wouldn’t get paid at all: “We won’t send you money overseas.” Why is a regular user being targeted like this? I just think this change raises many issues: - What about US citizens living abroad? (many are full time X creators) - What about legitimate international creators? - Users from countries with little user base? (Vatican, 800 people; Andorra, 80k, etc.) - International full time X creators? Why should an account like mine not be paid at all while delivering over 100M impressions a month? Because the Head of Product doesn’t like me? I think @elonmusk should look into this. There are smarter ways to deal with ‘foreign interference’ from 3rd world countries. I was suspended within minutes of respectfully commenting about Nikita, then unbanned by Elon Musk himself. Hope it doesn’t happen again. Just my opinion, respectfully.

@Catholicizm1 Why do people like Jay again? He lies about the Faith nonstop, talks a big game, then runs from debates and blocks and subtweets. Thats effeminate in my book. I like Andrew though.

I have no ill will towards Trent, but he did a video criticizing 3 guys known for their harsh debate style, basically tells them they’re not Christian and that they’re going to hell, then cries victim when they react to it. Really strange behavior.

@Catholicizm1 So which part of Scripture that Trent quoted do you disagree with? Jay, Andrew, etc all took personal shots first, Trent responds with Scripture. If they’re going to hell for their behavior, then they gotta take it up with Scripture, not Trent.

I'm based in France, but 43% of my audience is American. I know many of us are in the same situation. To reach a wider audience, all my posts are in English, the international language. Those who cause trouble may be punished, but with this change, which will significantly reduce our earnings, you're also penalizing a number of accounts that use the international language without any ill intent. X tells us that videos and new, high-quality content will be prioritized, but this change will, on the contrary, drastically reduce our earnings. Is there any way to reverse this decision, please?🥺 @XCreators @X @nikitabier @elonmusk

Starting Thursday, we'll be updating our revenue sharing incentives to better reward the content we want on X: We will be giving more weight to impressions from your home region—to encourage content that resonates with people in your country, in neighboring countries and people who speak your language. While we appreciate everyone's opinion on American politics, we hope this will disincentivize gaming the attention of US or Japanese accounts and instead, drive diverse conversations on the platform. We invite creators to start building an audience locally. X will be a much richer community when there's relevant posts for people in all parts of the world.

@yachimat_manga @dvorahfr You can still reach/market to US audiences. You just shouldn’t be making all your money off of us anymore. The US is not the world’s piggybank. Make money off your own region.

@elonmusk @dvorahfr Don’t pause it. Move forward with it. More good than bad will come from this. There are way too many bad foreign actors meddling in American politics. This isn’t a perfect solution, and there will be collateral damage. But it’s far better than the alternative.

@timotheeology @JayDyer You are the sole Catholic recipient of Jay’s generosity. Jay hasn’t extended that to any of his other debate opponents. Sam Shamoun, William Albrecht, Erick Ybarra, Elijah Yasi. How has Jay treated them?
