Today, we had a couple of lads watching, so for the last 30 minutes, they picked teams and coached them.
That added a little extra competition to the game, as well as giving a chance for those lads to work on their leadership skills.

Late season blues. Motivation drops. Energy levels drop. How can we raise the levels? Competition. At least that is what I have been trying with the college U19s. Make all the elements competitive. Split training into two teams early on. Use a board and keep track of who wins each section. Part 1 - Competitive relays with and without the ball. Score each race. Part 2 - Competitive passing/rondo. First team to a certain number of passes. First team to regain and score. First team to knock the ball off the cone. First team to a certain number of split passes (if there are two or more in the middle). Part 3 - Competitive shooting and finishing. First vs the goalkeepers. 1v1 - Pass set and strike - Third man finish (up back and short diagonal). Then vs goalkeeper and one defender. Then vs goalkeeper and two defenders. 3v1, 3v2, 4v2 + GK. Part 4 - Competitive small sided game. Small area with target players in opposition half. Part 5 - Match. High tempo game (service from the coaches). Five points for winning the game. Raise the energy.

It’s an image I’ve been thinking about for a while. Everything we do sits on top of that environment piece.
If the environment isn’t right, it doesn’t matter how good the session design or coaching is… it won’t land the same.

Most coaches jump straight to sessions.
But sessions sit near the top.
If the base isn’t right:
– no trust
– poor behaviours
– too much information
…nothing sticks.
This is how I think about developing players over time.
What would you add or challenge?

It wasn't the result as much as the manner of it.
Playing a quality team we used the strong wind to our advantage in the first half and we showed a lot of character defended against the wind in the second half.

I said to the reserves coaches after a result on Friday to celebrate your successes, so I'm practicing what I preach!
This seasons been tough, lots of poor performances and close results that haven't gone our way.
When things go well, their's nothing wrong with enjoying it.

Too many times this has happened to people who have contributed a LOT to football coaching.
X needs to do more to protect the accounts that provide genuine help to small communities within this "Global Town Square", and less for the spammers, the people who offer nothing of value, and the grifters
