Nothing worse than a docker registry outage when you're in the flow

@felipecruz The same is true for monitoring. Unlike monitoring, the registry is a critical part of the infrastructure. Without one, you can't deploy, update, reconcile or recover. Watch out kids, never install your registry alongside your workloads. Event better into a different DC or CSP.

@thdxr Set up your own registry with Harbor, or use a SaaS if you want to have a better availability outside your clusters.

dockerhub has pull limits so our builds keep failing, ok fine i'll pay go to sign up - it's a work related thing so i sign in with work email of course i need to make a username for some reason - my normal one is already used by my personal account i can't use symbols so end up with `terminalthdxr` go to pay - they show me that it'll be $16 but default it to 5 users so it's actually 5x lots of slow UIs later i paid and i make an access token - absolutely no clue where i put this LLMs are all wrong, try random shit and eventually my build works access token page still says it's never been used so unsure if i fixed anything or the rate limit just reset

@ibuildthecloud @ImJasonH serves each request by hand. It's based on go-containerregistry, it proxies to GHCR for blob storage right now but we're moving it to CloudFlare R2 for the free egress momentarily.

@lorenc_dan just curious, what software powers cgr.dev/chainguard, just docker distribution or something fancier?

I've been using @canisterio as a free container registry for a while, but I'm a bit worried it's no longer supported and I'm getting 503's this morning. Any recommendations on a cheap registry for multiple containers? Might end up defaulting to ACR otherwise #programming

@LuoYicheng Not that they host, I’ve been using the GitHub container registry and haven’t run into any issues.
