@2SevernBridges I think this post should read “Wind speeds are being continually monitored to maximise traffic disruption”. Another week goes by with no good explanation as to why the M48 bridge cannot be opened to low-sided vehicles

The #M48 #SevernCrossing is CLOSED eastbound between J2 (#Chepstow) and J1 (#Aust) to allow for emergency repairs to take place. The bridge is expected to be closed into the afternoon. Traffic is being diverted via the #M4 #PrinceOfWales bridge. Allow extra time.

@2SevernBridges Hi (again). Novel idea, but have you tried managing the traffic flow on the M48 bridge when wind speeds pick up? Rolling 20mph roadblock, temporary traffic lights to restrict vehicle numbers, etc. The on/off at Chepstow does nothing but slightly inconvenience motorists

@DJSnudge Hi the M48 bridge closures are for strong winds. Due to storm Bram hitting the south west of England we can't guarantee that the bridge won't close again today

@HighwaysSWEST @2SevernBridges @KenSkatesMS @Heidi_Labour given the absolute chaos the closures have already caused this morning, I would strongly urge you to ensure the bridges are not closed again today. There should also be serious questions asked regarding the (mis)management of these bridges

@2SevernBridges I’m sorry but this is still not acceptable. I’ll write to Ken Skates formally and ensure he addresses this with his counterpart in England to prevent these types of closures being implemented in the future. It’s shocking mismanagement

@DJSnudge Hi unfortunately we have an issue on the M4 bridge which needs to be repaired immediately for safety reasons and the M48 bridge is closed due to strong winds. We have kept a lane open on the M4 while we do this work. We do not anticipate that this will be a regular occurrence 1/2

@HighwaysSWEST @2SevernBridges @KenSkatesMS do you find this acceptable? Both major routes out of Wales are essentially closed. What’s being done about this in the long-term? You have people migrating from Bristol to Wales causing traffic buildup but no long-term plan…?

@DJSnudge Hi, there's currently no estimate when the lanes will re-open. We're unable to re-open them at this time as they are closed as we prioritise the safety of road users.
