It's not about grammar schools having low FSM because "leafy suburbs." Wherever grammars are based data regularly shows two schools a mile or two apart — one takes ~3% FSM, the other ~25%+. Selection using an 11+ is the problem, not grammar schools' location.

Nobody tutors for apprenticeships, numpty. And if you close all the grammar schools in the inner cities and leave open those only a few in the leafy suburbs don’t be surprised if not many are on free school meals. Doh!

@Alan_Couzens Understood. I suppose the means of attaining that CTL is as / more important than the CTL itself, i.e., smashing myself with short bursts of intensity is likely to be less helpful than long and low, which speaks to your original point.

@DannyHopkin It's essentially saying that in HRV, ~18% of the variance between scores is explained by chronic training load.
Considering ~50% is likely genetic, that's a significant portion of the non-genetic influences.

Reality is the enemy of fantasy. The greatest needle mover on HRV will be improving aerobic function. You can sit & breathe all you want, but without the ability to tolerate stress at higher heart rates while REMAINING aerobically functional you are running from sin.

@russellcurtis In fairness it has ca 200 miles of shared-use paths running in proximity to the roads that connect pretty much the entire city. Yes the H and V system is for cars but navigating the city is far from dependent on them.

The city has baked in car dependency. I don't know about you, but the idea of a massive surface car park next to a mainline station being hailed as an example of sustainable new towns doesn't seem very convincing to me. Why aren't we building thousands of homes on top of this?
