@avidseries i think blood is actually important. the soil isn't actually that big to those of us with colonialist backgrounds especially, who aren't farmers. patriotism is about loyalty to a community. there is a willingness to defend that community's control over certain land.

I don't understand internationalists at all. They want to be born nowhere and everywhere. To be rooted and connected to a place where your culture and ancestors existed for centuries is "nothing special." The world they seek has the texture and depth of an airport transit lounge.

@avidseries in times when individuals mostly physically planted and took care of and built things on the land they lived off of, sure a sentimental attachment and deep sense of ownership of that land makes sense.

One of my "hotter" takes on this subject is every high school could implement this tomorrow, and it wouldn't make a big difference.
99% of 14-18 year olds don't care about money.
They care about dating, friends, making varsity, and getting As & Bs so mom/dad don't yell at them.
