You RUIN schools by allowing kids to use screens for "BAD" things (cheat, doom scroll, distract others). You IMPROVE schools by allowing kids to use screens for "GOOD" things (direct instruction-based apps, research for project in area of interest). What's confusing about this?

@MrZachG Top students growth predictions are lower depending on if you create avenues for advancement you can see growth targets still exceeded. There can also be ceiling effects even with overlapping assessments, not optimized to measure growth.

If you have ever had your kids take MAP or a MAP-like test, you will know that the top students are actually predicted to go down in scores, while the lowest students are almost guaranteed to go up. And everything in between.

Each time a student mastered an IXL Learning lesson, they crossed it off—and got a happy stamp from their guide. What students loved: - Frequent, human feedback from their teacher - A tangible and visible sense of progress - The feeling of crossing off a to-do list ... I can relate The tradeoff: - Paper trackers add prep and complexity for the teacher or guide So here’s the real question: When academics move to laptops, does motivation still need to stay paper based? No @chamath. It was not reckless and irresponsible - it was pre-meditated, malicious, political and ideological just like the @BBC malicious, political and ideological reporting on Israel’s war in Gaza and especially their fake accusations on israel hitting the hospital.
