🤖FSD V14.2 First Impressions Drive 🚗 Although the release notes made this update seem small - it feels to me like this is the refinement we have been waiting for in V14. All of my driving today was very smooth with no brake issues - I drove through HEAVY construction, parking lots, highways, etc and had no issues at all related to braking. We did run into a problem where the car got stuck trying to leave the parking lot - this is a problem that a larger context window would likely fix. @ihockeyNHL @jimnordbo I pay $70 a month for their extended service plan, so I am not too worried. If it fails it'll cost me $135.00

The Tesla service experience is genuinely unmatched. Dropping off your car and instantly hopping into a loaner with your cloud profile already synced (seat position, saved locations, music) is something no other automaker is doing today. Plus, from the parking spot in the back of the lot, I literally pressed a button and the car drove me home. I try not to be a total Tesla fanboy, but days like this make you appreciate how good the ownership experience actually is.

Autopilot is for highway only - Tesla makes that very clear Rivians "Universal Hands Free" as per their website: "Enjoy hands-free assisted driving on over 5.5 million kilometres of roads in the US and Canada. If lanes are clearly marked, you can drive hands-free.²" --- Not a Tesla fanboy, just enthusiastic about autonomous driving.

@RivianUpdates @DevinOlsenn UHF is Rivians Enhanced auto pilot but for some reason Tesla fan boys love using it in comparison to FSD. When point to point is released later this year I’d like to see more comparisons then.

Rivian Universal Hands-Free vs Tesla Self-Driving This was my first time testing Rivian's new Universal Hands-Free, and I was honestly surprised by how it performed. I understand this is their first attempt and it will only improve from here, but truthfully, it is worse than any version of FSD or Autopilot I have ever used. I respect Rivian as a company, but I always try to remain unbiased in my opinions, so here are my unfiltered thoughts on where UHF stands today. Hoping to test it more as the system receives major updates! Hope you all enjoy the video. First off - I appreciate you being a "Rivian guy" but also admitting that there are issues with UHF today. I see what you're saying about using it on city streets - but again I was just using it the way I was told. The dealership told me it worked in the city and the verbiage on the website just tells me "works on any marked roads". If the system is able to be engaged it should be capable on those roads - that's on Rivian for allowing it, not on me. I agree that some of my issues were indeed first time use, I am sure my second try with UHF will be better - but again I think it IS fair to show people this since it's going to be everyones "first time" with the system at some point? I wasn't trying to be intentionally ignorant - I did what I thought was my due diligence, i watched Autonomy Day, A ton of YouTube videos about UHF, and I read through what I could find in the cars menus. UHF does seem like it performs decent on long straight roads (highways), and that's great... so why allow it to be used elsewhere and claim it works on other roads? I know I am probably the Rivian communities number 1 enemy right now - but truthfully I love the company. I think RJ is a really smart guy, I listen to every podcast/etc with him on it and I want nothing more than for Rivian to suceed... but I just can't help but think the naming, marketing, etc for this whole system is disastrous. It should be free until it's point to point It should not be called UHF It should only work on highways It should have a beta tag like FSD had

Good video, especially showing the real world behavior. From a Rivian owners perspective: I will say this is like using Tesla Autopilot on city streets and being surprised it doesn’t behave like a point to point system. I wouldn't compare AP to FSD, so why compare UHF to FSD? Rivian could definitely do a better job communicating Universal Hand Frees purpose and limitations because "Universal" Hands Free could be misleading. And yes Rivian should make it more clear when UHF is available. Some of what you were running into also just comes down to first time use. It looked like it was behaving as expected on the uninterrupted roads you showed. UHF is designed for long, uninterrupted, lane defined roads like urban and rural highways, interstates, and consistent stretches of road. It doesn’t handle city logic, stop signs, traffic lights, on/off ramps, or dense cross traffic, and it’s not trying to.

Okay to be fair that's my mistake, truthfully I thought it worked on all highways - I didn't realize it had to be on divided highways. With that said I have still seen plenty of videos of the car refusing to lane change on divided highways. But yes, I will admit that I am wrong to have expected it to make the lane change on that highway.

@DevinOlsenn The Granville Bridge where you're driving at 10:35 is not a divided highway. Lane change on command works on divided highways.

I really like the YL but I think it's more suited to families - I don't think Jae and I are going to have kids... but we do like to go camping and will go on logging roads to get to lakes here in BC. An R2/R3 is better suited for our lifestyle - but I just love the tech of Tesla so i would RATHER Tesla just make an actual SUV instead of all these modified versions of the Y.

This was one of those wow moments while using Tesla Self-Driving. We were driving home in the pouring rain when the car started to slow down at a green light. At first I questioned its decision but then I saw the person slowly crossing in a wheel chair. I promise you I was paying full attention to the road and I did not see the person until after the car began to slow down. Visibility was awful. Amazing work @Tesla_AI

@Tikboy12483148 @SawyerMerritt @carwowuk That's not true, and it's coming from someone who likely has no actual experience with Tesla FSD V14. Although I have to supervise FSD today, it is still invaluable to me. I cannot imagine ever going back to manually driving a car ever again.

Carwow just released a new video to its 11 million YouTube subscribers titled: "Why Tesla Full Self Drive is Pointless!" @carwowuk misleads its viewers into thinking Tesla’s Autopilot is FSD, even though FSD hasn’t been approved in the UK yet. Autopilot isn’t meant for city driving, yet they test of bunch of scenarios that Autopilot wasn't built to do in the first place....

@HiveFleet Fair enough, I have always had good luck at Tesla Langley - they seem to have a good supply of loaners. Worst case scenario I take a demo drive in a different vehicle while I get service done - assuming it's just in for something small and will only take ~1 hour or so.

Just coming up on 80,000km so I wanted them to do a once over to check it all out. I am getting the Extended Service Agreement, but still thought it was nice to get a "checkup" done. Mainly I just am trying to find excuses to stop by Tesla Langley and ask them if they Tesla Model Y Performance is there for me to demo drive yet, lol

@TheAfricanNerd Yeah definitely something you have to "experience" to understand. Anytime I dropped my Ford off to get serviced the overall experience looked nothing like this... and the loaner vehicle I was given was usually some broken down car with 5km to empty.

@JohnChapman @HustleBitch_ Truthfully I have only used a key card in a Tesla few times, less than 5 in total probably.. I just sort of mash the card near the general area and wait for it to unlock. I agree it's not super intuitive.

@DevinOlsenn @HustleBitch_ This matches the key card experience with tesla pretty closely. I hate valet, but i had to once at an ER. While I was in the ER with my child they had to come get me to unlock and move the car, they couldn't figure it out, after assuring me they knew what to do.

🚨 TOYOTA JUST MADE A CAR KEY SO CONFUSING… DEALERSHIPS HAVE TO TRAIN PEOPLE HOW TO UNLOCK THEIR DOOR A full-grown adult has to explain how to unlock a car door using the new Toyota card key. The key card literally has instructions printed on it. Angle the card. Find the “right spot.” Try again. Like you’re diffusing a bomb. Even he can’t get it on the first try: “Not working… not working right.” Now people will be standing outside their own car… waving a card around hoping it works. How did Toyota just make a car key WORSE?
