@noobbricks @DillanWeb3 That was 2012. In 2021, prior to AD, all teams, FOM and the FIA agreed that races will not end under safety car. In AD, Mercedes were so busy celebrating that they forgot what they agreed on. They cost Lewis the championship. That's why they did not appeal. Merc fucked up

This is why Lewis and Mercedes didn't take their Abu Dhabi 2021 Appeal to court btw. They were clearly in the right and had a very good case for winning, just like Pierre, but in the end winning like that is just garbage. You lose out on basically all the stuff that makes the moment of winning so great. Very reminiscent of Morocco and their AFCON. I think the only thing worse than winning a title in court, even if it's totally correct, is winning a title through an FIA donation. Besides, Mercedes thought they had another rocketship on their hands for 2022 so they thought they'd just win the eighth right then instead. I'm happy they didn't go through with it either way as we wouldn't have gotten Silverstone 2024 and Lewis in red otherwise, and everyone on the planet knows that Lewis was the rightful winner anyways. Congratulations to Pierre though, it's a completely deserved podium and Alpine are right to fight for every point.

@noobbricks A red flag would have made more sense than driving around to count down the laps. We could have had a 5-plus lap shootout till the end. It would have been really exciting.

@DillanWeb3 I dislike the claim that "they wanted to end racing" THEN RED FLAG. Like its such an obvious call and doesnt break any rules. And a straight and fair shootout would've been way better than what we got anyways.

@noobbricks True, but in 2021, the F1 Group also started focusing more on media hype, and they knew the decision would bring media hype. Hamilton was upset at Merc for not bringing him in… it was a dumb move, and if they did, AD21 might have been different. 2021 Merc strategies were bad.

@DillanWeb3 2012 ended under Safety Car aswell. And not all cars were unlapped anyways. The problem is that Mercedes made decisions based on the rules and then the rules were broken and left them out for dead.

@noobbricks Yes… because nobody wants to see the last race of the year end on a safety car. How is that exciting? That also would mean lower-tier teams would lose out on millions from the constructors if that happened, which is why 6 teams called in to demand the rule gets overlooked.

@DillanWeb3 Might want to read it again. The rule book states any cars need to be unlapped, which was clarified by Masi himself after the Eifel GP 2020 to mean ALL cars and then those cars should be given an extra lap to catch up. And none of those things happened.

@noobbricks And you do know, 6/10 teams called the stewards asking for the cars to lap the other cars… majority vote wins in this situation. There's no rule-breaking. Please, go read the rulebook… something I actually did last month, and another F1 book where they speak about AD21.

Just not the same thing in the slightest man dont be silly. We're talking about a clear rule break in the final race of the season. If you're talking about Bahrain, the FIA had already established they wouldn't track TL at that Turn however that obviously doesnt extend to overtaking off track.
