I joined @AstraZenecaCA in Mississauga to welcome a $820 million expansion of their research and development facility, which our government supported with $16.1 million through the Invest Ontario Fund. I was at the annual ROMA conference this morning to speak about the investments our government is making in Ontario’s rural communities. We’re going to keep working with our municipal partners to build roads and infrastructure, improve services and stand up for Ontario workers and jobs.

President-elect Trump continues to make real threats about imposing sweeping tariffs that would devastate Canada’s economy. In two weeks, the president-elect will be sworn in as America’s next president and will have every opportunity to make his threats real. Between now and then, the federal government needs to do everything humanly possible to avoid these tariffs, including by doing more to secure our border and offering a credible plan to invest more in Canada’s military to meet and exceed our NATO spending commitments. As every premier agreed at our recent Council of the Federation meeting, the imposition of tariffs by the U.S. would be a significant failure on the part of the federal government. Now more than ever, the interests of Canadian workers and families need to come before political or party ambitions. Canada needs to demonstrate stability and strength at this critical moment, and the federal government must urgently explain to Canadians how they will avoid tariffs that could have devastating effects on our economy.

I’m thrilled that our partners Marten Falls First Nation and Webequie First Nation are making real progress building the roads to the Ring of Fire, with geotechnical work at borehole testing sites well underway.
