As we wake up this weekend let’s remember that there is an American servicemember who might have survived a jet crash and spent all night alone hiding from Iranian forces searching for him. We must do all we can to rescue him.

It’s worth mentioning one point (again) about the Australian Government’s responses to Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. It is NOT a reluctant bystander which has been dragged into taking sides in a complex series of regional conflicts. In defiance of international law and public opinion in the country, Canberra went out of its way to support aggression and war crimes when it had the opportunity to do the opposite: to defend the rules, conventions and institutions of international society upon which, as a medium-sized power, it disproportionately depends. Despite the ominous economic reckoning we face today, the costs of supporting war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the US and Israel will not be felt immediately. However, in time Australia will reap the bitter harvest of a world made less safe and more volatile by its great and powerful ally across the Pacific and its closest friend in the Middle East. It will then be untrue and far too late to say that this country had no other choices. It did, as Spain, Norway, Denmark and many countries in Southeast Asia showed at the time. Or that Trump and Netanyahu were merely aberrations who would leave the stage in due course. Except for the most devout commissars and imperialists, no-one can be left in any doubt that from now on “Western civilisation” will be a euphemism across the globe for genocide, unprovoked warfare, ethnic cleansing and the illegal occupation of other peoples’ land. Australia’s political elites played their role in this catastrophe and should not be able to escape their responsibility for whatever darkness is to come.

Never ever forget that @SenatorWong refused to meet Francesca Albanese @FranceskAlbs when she came to Australia to warn against an inpending genocide in Gaza. Penny flew instead to Israel to have coffee with Herzog, the genocide enabler and @AlboMP later invited Herzog to Aust.

Logic of imperialist de-development laid bare. No U.S. war in the Global South is ever about liberating a people. It is always to stunt their development and stop the emergence of any sovereign power that can challenge the flow of imperialist rents from periphery to core

Claiming that "this waterway is a global public good" requires facing two questions: First, where was the EU when this "global public good" was available to everyone except Iran—a coastal country on the Strait of Hormuz? For years, Iran’s oil and trade were disrupted by the Americans through their unilateral and illegal maximum sanctions. Yet, Iran exercised self-restraint for decades; the EU noticed this but did not bother to reiterate that the Strait of Hormuz is a "global public good." Second, the flow is constrained by the aggression of the American and Israeli regimes, why then tout the EU’s Aspides naval mission instead of stopping the aggression itself?
Kaja Kallas@kajakallas

Thank you @YvetteCooperMP for convening a call of over 40 countries on the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway is a global public good. Iran cannot be allowed to charge countries a bounty to let ships pass. International law doesn’t recognise pay-to-pass schemes. Today, we looked at diplomatic, economic, and security measures to restore safe passage, alongside working with the shipping industry. The EU’s Aspides naval mission has already assisted 1,700 ships in the Red Sea and must be scaled up. We cannot afford to lose another critical trade route. We support work by the UN on humanitarian corridors in the Strait to get food and fertilisers out. The EU has tools to track and facilitate transit that could help with that.

Repeating the point I just made - the ruling class of the western world is standing in unison and pissing on our backs and telling us it’s raining, insisting that the straits are closed for no particular reason but Iranian “recklessness”. And no one in the media says shit

It’s very important that everyone see the disgraceful way these bootlicking imperial vassals behave and speak about an entirely unprovoked war of aggression their overlord started for no reason - repeatedly blaming the victim. Because they’re racist imperialists themselves
GermanForeignOffice@GermanyDiplo

For decades, #Iran has acted hostilely towards its neighbours and endangered peace and security with its #missile and #nuclear programmes. #China can use its influence on Iran constructively for a negotiated solution and a cessation of hostilities against the Gulf states. 2/3

Iran (I.R.of) Embassy in UK
The U.S. and Israeli regimes have assassinated our leaders, killed schoolchildren, and attacked hospitals, universities, energy facilities, and desalination plants. They have now struck the Pasteur Vaccine Institute and key road bridges. They openly threaten to bomb our power infrastructure and “return Iran to the Stone Age.” It seems these realities do not reach Australian and EU officials, or they are unwilling to condemn them. Instead, they criticize Iran’s self-defense. The world and history will judge you. Do not stand on the side of Nazis.

Ahead of tonight’s meeting with international counterparts, I spoke with @AnitaAnandMP about the conflict and its impact on global energy markets. We all want to see safe passage restored through the Strait of Hormuz and an end to it being held hostage by the Iranian regime.
