Three Medical officers in Lagos looked at the โ‚ฆ24 million USMLE bill and knew the truth: none of them could do it alone. So they did what Nigerian boys do when the future is too heavy for one back: they formed a financial covenant. They didn't use razor blades and incantations this time, they did something far worse. Three grown men spent 36 months dumping every single kobo of their salaries into a joint account to fund just one person's USMLE dream. Dr. Femi was chosen, he was the sharpest, the one whose brain moved like lightning across differentials. If anyone could cross over, it was him (Baba had 7 distinctions in Medschool). Dr. Chidi and Dr. Kabiru became the scaffolding, and disappeared into sacrifice. While others upgraded their lives, they reduced theirs. They starved so he could eat well before exams. They wore the same faded scrubs until the fabric remembered every night call. They ran 48-hour locums like possessed men, sleeping on plastic chairs in the duty room, waking up to the smell of disinfectant and hope. And Femiโ€ฆ delivered like the Hebrew women! Step 1. Clean. Step 2. Strong. Step 3. Surgical. He had matched into Orthopedic Surgery in San Jose, California. They knelt together in the dim call room at 2 a.m. and cried like small boys who had just seen God live. The day his visa landed, they held a small thanksgiving behind the hospital with plastic chairs, chilled ''mortuary-standard'' wine, hot 'suya' and loud prayers. Femi hugged them tight and said, โ€œA jแป bแบนrแบน, a jแป ma pari แบน. As we drank the exact same water in this trenches. The day my own light shines, your own no get choice but to blind their eyes.โ€ America received him, California swallowed him whole and gave him a new language of living. Six months passed, the calls started reducing, the replies became delayed. And Excuses grew politeโ€ฆ then thin. โ€œGuy a lot is going on.โ€ โ€œUna no understand this side.โ€ โ€œIโ€™ll call you back.โ€ A year later, Chidi was on night duty when the Instagram notification came. There was Femi in a crisp pin striped tuxedo, smiling beside a Caucasian nurse named Emily and a golden retriever sat at their feet like a well-fed spirit. The caption read โ€œForever starts here.โ€ Back home, life did not pause to process betrayal. The remaining two are still in Mowe, still wearing time like a burden while negotiating with a wicked matron over a 15k locum balance. The dream is insanely expensive, everybody knows that. But what nobody prepares you forโ€ฆis that sometimes, the cost is not the exams, or the flights, or the years you pour into another manโ€™s becoming. Sometimes, the real cost is discovering that you were only ever a bridge. And bridges, no matter how strong, are not meant to be remembered once they have been crossed. #Fiction #MATCH2026
Dr Pepple@drpepple_

Iโ€™ve done the maths. Itโ€™ll take about N24M for a Nigerian doctor to write USMLE and match to American residency program. If they donโ€™t have rich family, howโ€™re they gonna achieve this? The cost of a good life is actually expensive.

How can pharmacist interns earn more than House officers, there are some things I can never believe if I didn't experience them myself. @MDCNOfficial if you don't implement the salary increase which was approved since August 2025, you will leave us no choice but to embark on

On this app, Nurses, physiotherapists and recently Pharmacists, all in a bid to undermine doctors have ended up exposing the staggering differences in training and knowledge gap across our professions. Below is a clear example.
Pharm. Billy-young@GaliBillyyoung

Should pharmacists start posting the kind of things they see too? Take a look at this prescription please. No pharmacist will dispense these medications, quote me anywhere. It's from the Emergency pediatric unit. PS: the baby's age and or weight was not even written.

๐Ÿšจ BREAKING: "Israel wanted to assassinate Iran's Foreign Minister Aragchi and speaker Ghalibaf. It had coordinates of their movements. Pakistan intelligence got the information about Israeli plans. Pakistan informed US that if Israel kills Abbas Aragchi and Ghalibaf, there will be no one left in Iran to talk to. Iran will be taken over by the hardcore IRGC commanders. At this, US intervened and stopped Israel from carrying out strikes to eliminate Aragchi and Ghalibaf. " - Pakistani official to Reuters

@Mfonobong_RPh @Ev256 Just keep your mouth shut and stop being a nuisance because you want to shade doctors... How many Nigerians can afford their medical bills if hospitals start charging the actual amounts for their services.

@Ev256 Then that's where they need to step up and allow the people that deal with numbers do the math to run the hospital. Health care is a business. We can't keep offering below par services to keep it cheap.

Doctors are trained so brutally that you can drop any medical exam, set by any examiner from any country, in front of themโ€ฆ and theyโ€™ll still find their way through it. You can train doctors anywhere and test them everywhere. Training is local. The standard is global!

Why Iran Is Letting Japan Through Hormuz (Itโ€™s Fear, Not Favor) Iran isnโ€™t being nice to Japan by letting its ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Itโ€™s acting out of fear and calculation. Japan depends on Hormuz for ~70% of its oil imports. If the strait stays blocked, Tokyo has both the motivation and the capability to act. And unlike most countries, Japan isnโ€™t just willing. Itโ€™s able. Japan is a major naval power. Unlike continental European countries that prioritize armies and air forces to defend against land-based threats (such as Russia), Japan is an island nation surrounded by sea. Any attack against Japan would have to come via naval forces. Therefore, for Japan, the army is less important, while the navy is critical. Compared to European countries, Japanโ€™s navy is significantly stronger. Although Japan does not officially operate aircraft carriers, it possesses multiple โ€œhelicopter destroyersโ€ (quasi-carriers) with strong near-range combat capabilities. Japan also places great importance on minesweepers, as it fears that hostile countries could deploy naval mines around its waters and cut off its external trade. Japanโ€™s minesweeping technology is among the best in the world. If Japan joins U.S. escort missions, the balance in Hormuz shifts instantly. Tehran knows this. So itโ€™s trying to neutralize the most credible potential intervenor before it even moves. In geopolitics, strength shapes behavior and even adversaries make exceptions when the other side can actually back it up.

@EkeneGbulie @W3B3oracle @DrKalu_ I don't know what you mean though or what you're trying to say... I don't sell watermelon, my work wouldn't let me.. But people selling watermelons are humans too and it's their own means of survival, whatever anyone survives on without engaging in illegality is fine.

@Eze_Wilberforce @grok So you need Grok to tell you the obvious? Iran doesn't have a reasonable intelligence unit. They don't even control their own airspace let alone that of Israel. Even if they get the intelligence, the time it'll take a ballistic missile or drone to get to Israel, they'd have run.

Hello @grok, how does Iran not know these locations? Why does it seem that Israel strikes when Iran's officials gather, but when Israel' officials gather, Iran does not strike? What is Israel's secret?
