@GigaBasedDad None, I'm more agnostic than following a religion. That said I've been getting more curious about Christianity as of late since I tend to agree with a lot of their core principles.

@TheCatholicGuru @Simply_Tessy that person is excused for a serious reason or is dispensed. See Canon 11, Canon 1247, Canon 1248 §1, Canon 1245, and Canon 87 §1. Also, what does people at Mass not being Jews have to do anything?

@TheCatholicGuru @Simply_Tessy I believe every baptized Catholic who possesses the efficient use of reason and has completed 7 years of age is obligated to participate at Mass every Sunday or participate at an anticipated Mass on Saturday evening to fulfill their obligation, unless... see next reply

@IncredPapist_ It seems like grave matter, but full knowledge and deliberate consent also play a role in determing if an act like that is a mortal sin. God bless you and Christ be with you! ❤️

@immaculata117 @JenDrake061722 @Xtopher_Uzo @DivineJoker99 You shouldn't call them an idiot. We should imitate God and spread love with our words. Ephesians 4:29 NABRE "No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear."

@JLDP73 @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy Ah, I see. I don't think I have ever heard of receiving the Eucharist as an act of contrition. However, I have heard of receiving the Eucharist as a means to forgive venial sin. God bless you and Christ be with you!

If a Catholic never goes to Confession, are they missing something essential to the faith? Good Morning 🌹

@Fateistic @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy Yes, and the Church also encourages us to confess our venial sins; it would be a rather peculiar spiritual attitude not to heed this wise advice, even if the act of giving is receiving the Eucharist, which already forgives them.

@JLDP73 @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy In any case, it is still much wiser to go to Confession many times a year, if able. Relying on our own feelings to judge if we need to do the bare minimum in the case of if we have committed a serious sin is a bad strategy.

@JLDP73 @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy I am not immune from sin. I am just saying what I am pretty sure is Church teaching. If someone manages to avoid all serious sin for a year, then I am pretty sure that person has no strict obligation to go to Confession for that year.

@Fateistic @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy And you think that in a year, one can avoid committing serious sins? What I'm saying is simply logic: humans are wounded by sin, and many saints have been led to commit it. Why? Are you immune?

@JLDP73 @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy Sometimes people may think they have not sinned, but in reality have sinned. What I am talking about is regarding obligation, though. As in, if you have absolutely not seriously sinned.

@Fateistic @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy Very often, when we believe we haven't sinned, it's because we haven't looked back on our lives, because opportunities to sin are everywhere, and if we think they don't concern us, then it's incredibly arrogant.

@JLDP73 @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy Are you saying if one has not committed any serious sins, they are still obligated to go to Confession once a year? I am pretty sure teaching such as CCC 1457 goes against that.

@Fateistic @abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy So no, confession is mandatory at least once a year. This is true even if you have no sins on your conscience, which is theoretically very unlikely. And in reality, humans are sinners, so it's much more than once a year that we need to act.

@abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy So, to my knowledge, we have to confess serious sins at least once a year. If we have no serious sins, I don't think that obligation stands. God bless you and Christ be with you! The Holy Catholic Church is truly true! ❤️

@abideintheshad1 @Simply_Tessy The Catechism of the Catholic Church 1457 says, "after having attained the age of discretion, each of the faithful is bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year."
