Of all the terrible changes made to the liturgical calendar in the 1960’s (and they were legion), perhaps the worst was the dropping of the Pentecost Octave. Pentecost is traditionally the second most important feast of the year, and now it’s an afterthought to most Catholics, a single day that's soon forgotten in the vast blandness of "Ordinary Time." And for an era that claimed to want to emphasize the Holy Spirit, they sure had a weird way of showing it.
