Thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself since I'm new here! I'm a 34-year-old stay at home mom of four. My husband makes $60-$70k/year. We try hard to be disciplined, stay focused on what's important, and enjoy the journey. I'm here to celebrate our wins along the way!

Well I just found out our new HYSA was closed by the fraud prevention team... lady on the phone couldn't give me any information, and apparently we cannot reopen. I'm frustrated. Back to the drawing board...

Remember earlier this week when my fridge died and we talked emergency funds? 😩 Turned it into a money-saving win: Found the perfect one online at AO.com - £100 off for members + FREE installation, delivery, AND old appliance recycling! Membership cost? £40. Extra online voucher? £15 off. Total savings made it a no-brainer. Always shop around, stack deals, and fight for every £! Who's got their own bargain stories?

Being retired young isn't boring. It's fulfilling. This AM I asked my kids what they wanted to do. They said go to Elephant Rock (a state park 1.5 hours away). Fine. I loaded the 3 of them up in the RV plus two of their friends (whose parents work)......packed a picnic in the fridge, and went. Fun day!...and quite productive.

I've seen a lot of people upset that older couples are staying in their large, paid-off homes. "It's selfish". "Young families need those homes". But you better believe if I worked my whole life to pay off my home, I wouldn't want to move either. I don't think they should have to.

Baby boomers aren't selling their homes & why would they? They paid $120,000 for a home 25+ years ago, owe $0 & have $550k+ of equity. "Downsizing" means they'd need to buy something for $450k + take on a 6.5% loan. ...Many won't move & this will keep inventory low.

@jackiekenoyer This is such a great post! I've had vague misgivings about the "building wealth for your kids" thing, but couldn't define what the alternative was. Very well said!

Everyone talks about how to make your kids rich. But most of that advice is about doing the work *for* your kids. Investing *for* my kids might build an amount. But it misses the point. It doesn’t build habits or skills *in* them. Real generational wealth happens when we pass down money skills and habits, not just money. We want our kids to learn to give, invest, and save part of every dollar they get first. Then spend from what’s left. So my kids split *all* the money they earn and get as gifts between: give, invest, save, and spend. My 4 year old splits her money evenly. My older two (9 and 11) decide how their own amounts. The goal isn’t perfect math. It’s building money habits early. Real generational wealth is passed down through behavior, not balances.

A mistake I just made will cost me around $1,000. All my buildings have smart meters with an app to monitor usage and leaks. I’ve got alerts set for anything over .1 gallon/hr. Been perfect since I got them. Then I got comfortable… and stopped checking the app. Of course, that’s when it misses a leak. Tenant texts me Tuesday- running toilet. No big deal had it fixed same day. I realize I never got an alert. So I check the app. That toilet started running Sunday. Monday alone: 3,000 gallons. For reference, this is a 5 unit building that averages around 3,400-4,000 gallons per WEEK max. Simply put, I underestimated the leakage potential of the Porcelain throne. Pissed I let myself slip like that. Lucky for you, I made the mistake so you don't have to in the future.

When I got married 15 years ago the thought of not completely merging our finances did not even occur to me. It just seemed like an obvious no-brainer that married couples 100% share their financial situation.

I see these posts all the time: I have a friend who is ... (fill in bad financial decision). What do I do? And my answer is: nothing? Personal finances are just that. You are responsible for your own financial decisions, they are responsible for theirs. Am I wrong?

The talk around town (aka preschool) are the rising gas prices and the need to cut back on big spending (travel, appliances, etc). The fact high income households are cutting back on spending is not a good sign for the economy. As the younggins might say, we are cooked.
