The reason light pen is seen as a good option for bots & squids is because they don’t have to fight against med’s overpen

The Hive Guard change made it so much interesting to fight it, but the skill issue whiners can't hit the weak spot.
You can kill it much faster than before even with the first pistol.

@Owlizabeth @awesomehalofan You can shoot off heavy dev arms, while the shield is heavy you can actually still shoot their top torso and brute force with medium, their weakspot is AP1 so medium pen doesn’t have the overpen advantage.
Nearly every bug chaff has ap 2, so ofc the weakspot isn’t as favored.

@awesomehalofan Because it kind of gets rid the need for medium pen on bugs, the main reason you’d bring medium pen is for hive guards. It just kind of limits what you can bring which isn’t very fun.

@MRiggity The thing that *actually* brought in 100k players was the Illuminate drop a few months after the patch in question. The patch itself was only responsible for a small uptick in players & the following year of powercreep.
