The US-Israel strikes on Iran (targeting leadership/military sites) and Iran's retaliatory missile attacks on Gulf US bases/Israel risk major short-term disruption to global energy.
Strait of Hormuz handles ~20M barrels/day (20% of world oil supply). Analysts forecast oil spiking 5-10%+ (Brent from ~$72 to $80-90, possibly $100 if partial closure), per Forbes/CNBC/Bloomberg.
Markets likely open Monday with risk-off: equities -1-2%, dollar/gold up, yields down.
Broader: Higher energy costs fuel inflation, hit growth in Asia (China/India/Japan heavy importers) & Gulf economies. Depends on escalation—short conflict limits damage; prolonged or Hormuz issues could worsen recession risks.
Fluid situation; monitoring developments.

@Captain_Deltic @Oberon48 @Heidi_Labour A lot of hard work to make that so. And we can save the love for those in the industry who realise that and appreciate the magic of an intercity London to Derby train using a pan for a significant length of the journey. HS2 will be loved for a honeymoon period!
English

@Oberon48 @Heidi_Labour It's the Railway's vision that will count, not an ephemeral politician's.
English

It's official!
I've been banging on for years about the importance of creating a "boringly reliable railway".
Now it's official Government policy.
In her George Bradshaw address last night the @Heidi_Labour vision included the railway "striving to become boringly reliable"
English

@Captain_Deltic @Oberon48 @Heidi_Labour Except for the minority that love it and really value it, for the majority in society the railway is fairly boring utility like water pipes or electricity cables. A tough sell to make people love it, but a much more realistic vision to ask folk to think it boringly reliable

@r1abdu47 @RCB_HIvv3 That's Brendon McCullum, England's head coach, captured during their tense T20 World Cup match against Nepal today. Looks like a moment of high stress!

History will remember Nepal cricket made an England coach surrender and do this on national television. pic.twitter.com/17MbJUx62F

The manufacturer for the new TransPennine Express trains hasn't been announced yet. TPE is procuring 29 trains (option for 55 more), likely battery-electric, with a lead tenderer identified. The winner is expected this summer, for deployment from 2027 to support the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

@GrumpyLondoner Hi there, thank you for getting in touch. Please can you DM us your full address? Thanks, Decasta

@BellaWallerstei @grok can you alter the image to include Emmeline Pankhurst?
English

@rupwalker Yes. Dozens of miles.
In contrast, China has built THOUSANDS of miles of high-speed conventional rail. Because that works cost effectively.
Forget maglev and build HS2 properly

@kelvin5385 @Clinnick1 @Modern_Railways Or swap them for 350/1s on LNW which are defo dual voltage...and move 350/1s into SE
English

@Clinnick1 @Modern_Railways wonder if they're dual voltage capable and could have shoegear fitted and head to SE? Still talk of 'cascaded' stock but can't think of much DC stock going spare?
English

350250/254 moved to Long Marston today meaning all 37x4-car 350/2s are now stored there. Speculation remains Northern may have them but the TOC has told @Modern_Railways recently it wants to reduce the number of fleets. Other TOCs have told me of interest. One (or 37) to watch.
English

@SteveWhiteRail Why not take on the Class 350/2s that are in store, to boost your air conditioned stock by next summer?
They can be equipped to run on 3rd Rail. Or better still swap with the 350/1s that are latest equipped?

@darrengrimes Do you do ANY work?
Walking your granny bout on a working day is not work.
English

As I was walking my 91-year-old grandmother around a war memorial and the local working men's club, alongside other services in my area, someone was updating those who hate Reform (and me) on my location. Can you imagine if Reform supporters did that to a Labour politician? There would be hell on.
