🚨OH CANADA: Off-duty and retired police for firearm collection?
This exchange took place on March 24, 2026, during the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.
Only 2.5% of affected firearms have been declared.
The minister says collection will happen using additional resources, including off-duty and retired officers.
The program is described as voluntary.
But the amnesty expires October 31st, after which enforcement begins.
So what happens to the 98% that don’t comply?

The MN House DFL is now trying to pass a ban on all semi-automatic rifles by declaring an urgency and bringing the bill out of committee onto the floor.
They will need 88 votes to do so (2/3rd majority).

After quite a bit of debate over the motion, the DFL’s motion to declare and urgency to BAN MAGAZINES failed 66-68.
A 2/3’s majority would have been required for their motion.
All GOP voted against along with DFL Rep. Bahner (likely as a procedural move so she could move to reconsider later)
The bill remains alive in the House Public Safety Committee.

🚨 BREAKING from the MN Court of Appeals 🚨
Today was the State’s appeal in Caucus v. Walz—our case challenging the binary trigger ban under the single-subject clause. We also cross-appealed to strike down the whole bill.
And in oral arguments… the State just folded.
👉 They conceded the binary trigger ban was NOT germane to the omnibus bill.
That’s game over on that issue. The ban is dead.
But the bigger fight continues 👇
We’re pushing to strike down the entire 1,400+ page omnibus bill that was jammed through in the final minutes of the 2024 legislative session.
Because if courts allow this, lawmakers will keep stuffing unconstitutional policies into massive “must-pass” bills.
⚖️ This case could shut that down for good.
We'll have a decision within 60 days.
