I say this as a big US Soccer fan whoโ€™s very excited for this summer: The US should never be allowed to host the World Cup again.

@Jeff_Richmond @the_transit_guy That sounds awesome too. Both can be fun. I tailgate all the time in NY, Buffalo, and Miami. Love it. Went to a bar for a game in Charlotte years ago for MNF. Also fun. Itโ€™s a cultural thing. I canโ€™t wait to โ€œtailgateโ€ at a bar before an Arsenal game someday!

@the_transit_guy I went to a game at Camp Nou once. We pregamed and postgamed in bars and restaurants. WAY better than a parking lot

Kind of funny that U.S. stadiums sit in seas of parking for โ€œtailgating,โ€ yet on a global stage that function disappears. Imagine coming from Barcelona and wondering why thereโ€™s nothing but parking around a stadium with a smaller capacity than this?

@the_transit_guy I learned about tailgating today. As a European, it sounds like absolute shit.

The World Cup is supposed to be about experiencing the best the host nations have to provide culture wise. Tailgating is a massive part of US sports culture and is a massive part of the sporting experience in the US. What are we even doing at this point, seriously?

FIFA is set to reap nearly $11 billion from this summer's World Cup, yet New York area commuters and residents are being handed the bill. ย  The least FIFA can do is ensure New York residents can go to the stadium without being gouged at the turnstile. I am demanding FIFA step up and cover transportation costs for host cities and states. New York commuters and residents should not subsidize an $11 billion windfall.
The New York Times@nytimes

From @TheAthleticFC: New Jersey Transit is currently planning to charge more than $100 for return rail tickets from Penn Station to MetLife Stadium for FIFA World Cup games. The 18-mile rail journey ordinarily costs $12.90 for a return ticket. nyti.ms/3Op4Jxw

This is genuinely disgusting & egregious. MetLife stadium that is in the MIDDLE OF NOTHING except for its parking lots (!!!)... FIFA is making it $100 to travel on public transit AND illegal to park at the stadium at all. U.S. & FIFA are ruining the World Cup experience
