Reminder that Israel created its own advanced fighter jet, the IAI Lavi, which first flew in 1986 after late-1970s development as a lightweight, highly agile, and relatively affordable multirole aircraft with cutting-edge avionics and an estimated $6–7 billion program cost (about $20–30 million per jet), posing a direct competitive threat to the U.S. F-16, and it was canceled in 1987 largely due to pressure from the Ronald Reagan administration.

This rational makes no sense. When Israel had no Iron Dome, terrorist rockets just crashed into Israeli towns. Israel had to respond. From the advent of Iron Dome in 2011 until October 7, Israel absorbed many rocket attacks and responded more moderately - because of Iron Dome.
