A massive sports scam appears to be unfolding in J&K. Young athletes are asking a simple question: Why is a non-Olympic, non-Asian Games, non-Commonwealth Games sport being treated on par with, or even above priority sports that produce international champions for India? Why are public funds, jobs, rewards and selection benefits being disproportionately extended to a discipline that receives little recognition from national and international sporting bodies, while athletes from priority sports continue to struggle for support? If merit is the foundation of sport, then the government must immediately make public the selection criteria, funding details, coach appointments, tournament records and policy basis behind these decisions. The youth of J&K deserve transparency, not favouritism. The athletes of J&K deserve answers, not silence.

In Srinagar! Had the honour of an excellent meeting with Lieutenant-Governor Shri @manojsinha_ at Lok Bhavan today. We discussed the situation in the state and the encouraging progress towards normalcy. When I arrived he was chatting to the President of the Kashmiri Writers’ Association and the Women’s Organisation — a positive outreach that I welcomed. Many challenges remain and much remains to be done, but I left the meeting feeling more positives than I have felt for a while.

I cross-checked this myself. I texted the recruiter introduced myself as a Hindu candidate and was told I was eligible. I then asked about a Muslim friend from Kashmir and the response was blunt. He is not eligible. The irony is hard to miss. They want manpower from J&K, they want to do business and earn from the people of J&K, a Muslim-majority region but when it comes to providing employment, Muslims suddenly become not eligible. If a person’s religion determines whether they can earn a livelihood, this isn’t recruitment, it’s discrimination. No company norms can override the Constitution of India. Excluding citizens because they are Muslims is not policy, it is prejudice. If this is indeed happening under your banner, the country deserves an explanation. @letsblinkit @albinder @deepigoyal are jobs now decided by faith? Can you confirm if it is your policy? Dear JKBOPEE After objections were raised to just two questions in the BSC Nursing/Paramedical entrance test, a revised provisional list was issued. At best the scores should have changed by 2–3 marks. Then how does a candidate who scored 5.50 marks in the first list suddenly score 154.50 marks in the revised list? What kind of mathematics or transparency is this? Is this sheer incompetence or something more serious? And by the way is this the same JKBOPEE that was embroiled in the infamous 2012 scandal where MBBS seats were allegedly sold for ₹25 lakh? The people of J&K deserve answers.
