When he turned 18 there was a draft lottery for Vietnam. Your number (based on date of birth) determined whether you were drafted. The highest number called in 1970 (for all people born 1944-1950) was 195.
He was born in December, which (he later learned) was the worst month to not get drafted - on the chart below the x axis is day of the year starting on Jan 1 ending Dec 31 and y axis is your number.
Anyway he was born on 12/15, which was one of only 5 days that didn’t get called in December (there were 16 in January, for example).
The quoted tweet is obviously oblivious to Vietnam…but…if you swapped out
“didn’t have to fight in a war”
with
“literally won the lottery”
or
“literally won the (genetic) lottery” (rich enough to dodge the draft without fleeing to Canada)
you could make it more accurate.

Together, they constitute the geographic chokepoints of Beijing’s vulnerability, and Washington is acutely aware of this. Yes, the New Great Game is unfolding, and Wall Street has yet to comprehend the consequences.

While world leaders were watching events in the Persian Gulf, China effectively annexed territory in the South China Sea by building an artificial island about 400 km from Vietnam.
A full-scale base has appeared on what used to be a reef — more than 50 facilities and a runway about 2.7 km long, enough for military aircraft.
