Dr. Parenti left us this morning (PST) peacefully at the age of 92, surrounded by loved ones. In the words of Chinese communists, he as gone to see Karl Marx. He reminds me of Eastern Jin Dynasty scholar Tao Yuanming, who was known for "refusing to bow like a servant for five buckets of rice." When communism was being rejected in the west in favor of leftism (baizuoism), he stuck to his guns and unapologetically spoke the truth of the nature of power, why countries like China, the Soviet Union, the DPRK, Cuba, etc., did what they had to do to protect their sovereignty and the dignity of the people. He could have gone the way of his contemporaries like Angela Davis or Gnome Chumpsky, but he instead refused to bow for five buckets of rice until the very end. I was very honored to have met him four years ago at his home in California, and will do my part in making sure that his ideas and soul live on through us. Rest in peace, Dr. Parenti.
