On the one hand, I think taxing second homes owned by outsiders is generally a good policy for cities. On the other hand, the sadism these people display over taxing is disgusting. They don't care about good policy, they just want to hurt people out of spite and envy.

@JustLarry_Me @JamesSurowiecki Well, 63% are apparently smart enough to understand the deficiencies of the EC, but the system is so entrenched in the US' electoral system and it's political culture that it can't be removed so easily.

The replies to this are so funny: 4000 people making the exact same bad arguments I've heard my whole life, as if they've somehow never been made before. I know the arguments for the EC - that's why I said there are no good ones. The US has only one office that's elected by American voters as a whole. The fact that we have a system that in that one race allows a minority of voters to dictate to the majority and decide who gets the office is ridiculous and stupidly anti-democratic. We're always going to have it, but that's a bad thing.
