Tonight I brought Maggie, James and Carrie to the @ExplorersClub Washington Group’s monthly dinner at The Cosmos Club to learn about the role of distance education in sharing with children worldwide the rediscovery of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s famed lost ship Endurance in the icy waters off Antarctica. The Explorers Club’s mission is one that excited and inspires me: a multidisciplinary society dedicated to the advancement of field research, scientific exploration and resource conservation — and transparently, I am obsessed with the potential of using frontier AI to support this community in our advancement of human understanding.

Washington briefly set aside its crises this weekend so friends could celebrate Maggie & me getting engaged. Champagne, policy gossip, and genuine happiness were involved, proving that a govtech guy and global policy wonk girl can sustain a human relationship in this world.

In personal news, yesterday @magtherose and I canoed out into the crystal lagoon beneath Mount Otemanu in Bora Bora, jeweled in vibrant flowers, where I asked her to marry me. Aluu from Nuuk, Greenland 🇬🇱, where I’ve been on a cultural and wilderness journey as a passenger on @united’s inaugural flight here to the northernmost capital in the world. I spent a year living in far northern Greenland when serving in U.S. Air Force Space Command, and was excited to finally return and reunite with the people and epic natural beauty: including a two day trek deep into the fjords for an off-the-grid expedition camp near an ancient Viking settlement to read Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations and Mustafa Suleyman’s The Coming Wave, explore the rugged mountains, observe fauna and spot wild reindeer.

Things I have used @AnthropicAI and @OpenAI for this week: 1. Horticulturalist: individually identified and created a care plan for every plant in the house and garden. Then designed a new garden to plant this weekend. 🌺 2. Personal trainer: designed a wellness and exercise schedule, with daily checkins and weekly reports, to reach the goal of fitting into the polar parka I mistakenly ordered a size too small for my Greenland expedition in June. 🤷🏼‍♂️ 3. Financial Planner: ruthless and demanding monthly adjustments amidst turbulent markets to ensure I can continue to provide my dog the standard of living he’s accustomed to. 💵
