Unfortunately, there is not much to "farm" at the moment. A 21 year old college student made $1,000,000 selling pixels on a blank webpage. In 2005, Alex Tew couldn't afford university tuition. So he built a website with 1 million pixels and sold each one for $1. Advertisers bought tiny blocks to place images linking back to their sites. That was the entire idea. Friends and family bought the first $4,700. He spent $400 on PR. Soon after, the BBC covered it. The site exploded generating $250,000 in two weeks and over $100,000 in a single day at it's peak. As pixels disappeared, scarcity kicked in. The final 1,000 pixels were auctioned on eBay for $38,100. His total revenue: $1,037,100 His total cost to build: ~$50 The site is still live. Most links are inactive, but the page became one of the most visited websites of 2005. Showing how a simple idea, framed correctly, can be worth millions.
