@WallStreetApes Did you know? Took years of hard work, surveillance, & (incredible risk!) to create an informant/ tip network. Result: Portland had a massive, database of intelligence + a spy network in the criminal gangs. Portland was peaceful. It worked. Deleted for "racial profiling." 😫

@Not_A_CultMembr @archeohistories This image was taken on an extremely high-res, large format, glass plate negative. When glass slides called "magic lantern slides" were created, they could be projected to the size of a modern cinema screen. I bet we could find the original and zoom in tighter. 4k+, in 1906.

The log drives must have been a sight to behold. This one looks like it was being managed by the whole family. (1930s) Scenes like this were once common across North America, especially in heavily forested regions near rivers and lakes. Log drives were a primary method of transporting timber before modern trucking and rail networks became widespread. After trees were felled during winter, logs were stacked and then released into rivers during spring thaws, when swollen waterways could carry massive quantities of wood downstream to sawmills. What makes this image striking is the human scale of the operation. Entire families often participated in logging work, particularly during the Great Depression, when every able body contributed to survival. Men, women, and even children helped guide, balance, and separate logs using long pike poles. The work was dangerous and physically exhausting. Slippery bark, rolling timber, freezing water, and sudden jams could turn fatal in seconds. Log drivers needed extraordinary balance and quick reflexes, running across moving logs to break jams before pressure built up and caused catastrophic releases. Despite the risks, the work was essential to supplying lumber for homes, railroads, factories, and ships at a time when wood remained the backbone of industrial expansion. By the mid twentieth century, log drives began to disappear as environmental concerns grew and mechanized transport proved safer and more efficient. Today, images like this preserve a fleeting moment when rivers themselves served as highways, and family labor powered an industry that shaped entire regions. Some log drivers deliberately wore spiked boots called caulk boots, designed to grip wet timber, but even with them, logging consistently ranked among the deadliest jobs in early twentieth century America. © History Pictures #archaeohistories

@Not_A_CultMembr @archeohistories Very famous photo. Can't find info about it on my phone right now, but I remember the caption describing the man being thrilled at the chance to have his family, and, his dancing dog, photographed. My note: Shutter speed was so slow at the time, he trained to him to stand still.

@WashCoScanner Nope! Not "out." It flared up again just after midnight, with flames on 2nd floor, through the roof. One truck (37) headed that way, was turned around. "There's no fire." Few mins later - "oh there's fire!" Yikes. Looks like a nasty sneaker, smouldering in the roof.

Flying over any type of emergency scene without permission could result in fines or arrest. Drones over an emergency scene means responder aircraft and resources have to avoid the area. Don't be the cause of an accident or escalation of an incident.
