We agreed to strengthen our diplomatic ties and deepen our multilateral partnerships to advance our shared interests and shape African and global transformation.

Met Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli of Ethiopia on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit, Addis Ababa. Our discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, with emphasis on regional infrastructure and energy development, and peace and security. We also explored ways of better harnessing continental and regional institutions, including the African Union, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to advance regional integration and expand intra-African trade.

We are working with all stakeholders to address the peace and security situation in South Sudan. Under the African Union High-Level Ad Hoc Committee for South Sudan (C5 Plus), we are advancing efforts towards a peaceful and successful conclusion of the transition period, culminating in credible elections in December 2026. The efforts revolve around robust and inclusive dialogue with all the relevant parties, including hold-out groups and those excluded from the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity, to resolve outstanding issues under the Revitalised Agreement and advance critical transitional milestones. As a result, we call on all participants to refrain from advancing narrow, partisan, sectarian or ethnic interests and instead give priority to the supreme interests of the people of South Sudan.
