So let me get this straight yzerman wasn’t willing to give up premium assets for 26 yr old Quinn Hughes but was willing to give up a premium asset for 34 yr old Justin Faulk who has the same contract length with no guaranteed extension?? It doesn’t make sense. #LGRW
Detroit Red Wings@DetroitRedWings

UPDATE: The #RedWings have acquired Justin Faulk from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Justin Holl, Dmitiri Buchelnikov, Detroit’s 2026 1st round pick and San Jose’s 2026 3rd round pick.

@younger1340 giving up the 13th pick (with 4.2% chance of it being No. 3) I think would be meaningfully worse than 15 or 16

Going to be very interesting to see which Red Wings dress for these final 2 games. Obviously, there are several who have been playing hurt. But with STL owning Detroit's pick, Red Wings have an incentive (organizationally, more so than players) to try and keep that pick late

Just to clarify, the Pistons acquired the pick swap in exchange for taking Dario Saric’s $5.4 million contract into their trade exception. Essentially, they paid $5.4 million to move up 7-8 spots in the first round.

@McCartyDangles Orrrr it’s as simple as the playoff race is over and fans know it. Lower bowl ticket prices were less than $50 ea tn.

@Colton_Hill This comparison makes zero sense. Steve Yzerman was taking us to the finals (and losing) at age 30. Larkin can’t get us into the playoffs. The organizations are at two complete different points in both athletes age 29 season.

The Larkin talks of trading him away seems awfully similar to the Steve Yzerman for Alexei Yashin back in the day of 1995/1996. Makes no sense at all. Yzerman did not win his first Stanley Cup till he was 32 years. #LGRW

@GreatLakeMagyar @rdryan33 Yeah, probably right. The deal without the protection was consummated at the 11th hour so there was no more time to negotiate the protection in, assuming it’s something Steve was trying to do.

**Yzerman finally trades a 1st for an impact player in a position of need** Fans: No, not like that. Which is it, then? Just tiring mind games from this "fan" base.
Jordan Jakubik@jordan_jakubik

@rdryan33 If they want to make a big move, having a 26 1st rd pick would be a nice asset. Oh wait never mind

@rdryan33 Fair, but Carter Bear is suddenly one of our best prospects in our pipeline and we took him 10 months ago at pick 13. Our organizational strength seems to be drafting. Our obvious weakness is pro personnel. All things equal, I’d give amateur scouting more ammo

@Leonard2Gi I agree to an extent, but at the same point does it hurt when it's a draft pick that still is several years away? Maybe it does turn out to be a great player, but how long do we wait for that? That's my internal struggle on worrying about it or not.

@MarkHalsteadTV Their goal differential at the time was essentially even. They won a ton of one goal and OT games where they got puck luck. We suck… get over it

That’s not “fucked”. Whats fucked is a team that is clearly playing below their potential because of effort. And one that has done the same shit for 5 seasons in a row. The fans are fuckin sick of it. Frankly, booing is nicer than it should be. Instead of throwing an octopus on the ice as has been tradition, the fans should start throwing their jerseys. What a disgrace
Spittin' Chiclets@spittinchiclets

Being in a playoff race and getting booed off by your OWN fans, that about sums up the Red Wings play right now.

@The_Mexinadian The prospect pool is quite good but not many of them project to be top line forwards. Eventually we’re going to have to parlay some of them into a big trade

Acting like Edvinsson, ASP, Finnie, and Kasper don't exist is crazy work. "Kasper sucks" He's 21 and in his 2nd NHL season. Writing him off is dumb. Not to mention Bear is killing it in Junior right now and MBN, Lombardi, Danielson, and Cossa are thriving in the AHL.
⚫️🟡@SteelerHabs

@DB56522 @The_Mexinadian The reality is - the prospect pool actually stinks. And it always has. It’s literally 5 years they’re at the top of these rankings. They’ve got nothing to show for it since Seider and Raymond.

Jaden Ivey saved the Bulls
NBA Base@TheNBABase

The "Jaden Ivey incident" was reportedly the final straw for the Reinsdorfs to fire Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley, per @JCowleyHoops "According to a source, both were on thin ice heading into the trade deadline back in February, with concerns over the immediate direction of the organization. The embarrassment of the Jaden Ivey incident was the final straw, leaving the Reinsdorfs no choice but to move on after six-plus seasons."

I've tried to stay positive. I've tried to be patient. I've tried to look for the long-term goal. Blow it up. This isn't working, & it will be a slap in the face of fans to ask them for more patience & use the "we tried" excuse. You can NOT come back next year with minor changes

I really hope if and when Shelia has a press availability, she gets asked directly about this. I honestly thought the Lions learned their lesson when they basically had to re-pay Calvin to get him to acknowledge the team again. This makes us look like a joke of a franchise.
Nolan Bianchi@nolanbianchi

#Lions president Rod Wood on Frank Ragnow controversy: "We have to do what’s right for our organization, and if I worried about optics, I wouldn’t do a lot of things. But I’m very comfortable with where we are, and every situation’s been handled separately and differently, and I don’t have anything else to say.

@MurfBob2446 @ChrisSalts … Rod Wood’s bonus was almost certainly tied to past years performance and not subject to payback. It’s not a signing bonus unless he signed some new deal. The concept of unvested RSUs would blow all these guys minds

@ChrisSalts It’s well known that in any business where you’re giving a sign on bonus, you have to pay SOME or ALL of that bonus back if you quit before the contract is up. Nothing legally or morally wrong with what the Lions did here. This is business. Business is cold at times.

I hope when Rod Wood retires he pays back a portion of his bonus. There’s precedent there dating back to Barry Sanders. 🤷‍♂️
Ari Meirov@MySportsUpdate

The #Lions made Frank Ragnow return part of his signing bonus after retiring early, continuing a franchise policy that dates back to Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, per President Rod Wood, via @DaveBirkett: “Our precedent goes all the way back to Barry Sanders… And I think the reality is, they’re not paying back their money, they’re returning our money, because they were paid in advance for services that they hadn’t completed.” More here: freep.com/story/sports/n…
