@Saatvata @subapicarl Genetic evidence cannot work with Bengali or Odia origin. Most probably later Buddhist corridors made the Old Sinhalese create links with Magadhans due to prestige.

@Saatvata @subapicarl I wasn't aware, thanks. Still the Lata of Mahavamsa/Dipavamsa is clearly of Gujarat not Bengal... Bengal one was not called Lala/Lada/Lata but Radha and adjacent phonetics

Why do you say it is a later toponym? It's mentioned as a rather unpleasant place alongside Vajjabhūmi and Subbhabhūmi in the first suyakkhandha of the Āyāraṅga (~4th century BC). The first suyakkhandha of the Āyāraṅga is very archaic. It almost certainly predates the Mahāvaṃsa.

@Saatvata @subapicarl Again it mentioned Supparaka which is clearly Sopara and adjacent to Lata of Gujarat. East Indian origin doesn't make much sense since they weren't long distance seafarers in that era. Gujarat has long distance seafaring tradition since Harappans and major ports which were active

@Saatvata @subapicarl > Roman style rouletted pottery and Arretine ware from Ambari dated to the 1st century AD? I don't know much about it to comment.

You haven't explained the presence Śuṅga coins at Ambari and the references in Arthaśāstra though. What is your opinion on the Roman style rouletted pottery and Arretine ware from Ambari dated to the 1st century AD? Some have argue that it indicates that Prāgjyotiṣapura was a major transit hub on the Sino-Roman trade route though others have argued that they are merely "local imitations" or "Romano-Indian" products? Why does the kiln-fired Kaolin/Ambari Ware pottery differ from the handmade cord-marked or basket-impressed pottery from sites like Daojali Hading and Sarutaru? Where are there no characteristic jadeite tools at Ambari if it was a Austro-Asiatic or Tibeto-Burman settlement?

@Saatvata @subapicarl Read my reply again, I didn't say Guwahati during Shunga was not Indo-Aryan, but that it only represented the easternmost extent of Eastern Magadhans. Further proper settling and eastern expansion happened after Shungas

@Saatvata @subapicarl Also if I recall, PGW was found in Sri Lanka which would point to western origin as PGW had marginal reach as far as Ujjain, but no PGW has been found in Odisha and Bengal. Insular IA is basal and probably split by the same time as Southern and Eastern became distinct vernacular.

@Saatvata @subapicarl All the links drawn with eastern regions are thus so far inconclusive, ambiguous and of more speculative nature. Nonetheless it's a possibility but lack of proper data makes it second plausible hypothesis compared to west coast origin for me.

@Saatvata @subapicarl Guwahati is more into west Assam, so yes till Guwahati probably they had expanded during Shunga but further eastern influx and full IA-isation would've been completed by Guptas most probably.

@Saatvata @subapicarl It's not just the mention, but we don't have Indo-Aryan kingdoms in Kamarupa unlike in Kathmandu Valley and Anuradhapura kingdom for Sri Lanka, thus I believe much of Assam was settled during Guptas during relative stability and high tide of Indic civilization

@khlavkalashguy @Maptysk @Dfire880 Most probably the base ancestry is related to Kmlo Mesolithic, i.e. an intermediate between typical CHG and typical Zagros N

@khlavkalashguy @Maptysk @Dfire880 There isn't Anatolian shift, that's the thing. If anything the western SSAC just show higher CHG shift, compared to HFC showing IranN shift, as is obvious from geography. HFC and SSAC are 60-70% Cayonu/NevaliCori
