So, for those killed and those whose voices are silenced: what more evidence do you need? Will you act now – decisively – to prevent genocide in Gaza and to ensure respect for international humanitarian law? This Council must prevail. Demand this ends.

#AIDCUTS STATEMENT: Today Govt set out an extremely worrying retreat from tackling poverty. Baroness Chapman said work to develop economies is a priority but decimating support for education and girls' equality will hold back this aspiration. Details ⬇️savethechildren.org.uk/news/media-cen…

Very important that the ONE campaign is questioning the legality of the UK aid cuts. The legislation is there for a reason, and shouldn't be flouted for political reasons. Rule of law matters. And the 65 million people (at least) whose lives will be upturned by the cuts matter.

Under the Tories, Britain spent 28% of our aid budget on asylum hotels — an egregious waste of taxpayers' money and a clear misuse of funds intended to tackle global poverty. I'm pleased this government is committed to speeding up asylum processing and reducing reliance on hotel accommodation. Today, I asked the Home Office Minister for assurances that, given the planned reductions to the aid budget, an increasing share won’t be used on hotels — but will instead be focused on our international development priorities.

Where is Ukraine’s missing money? Have you seen it? Because we haven’t—and neither have the children of Ukraine. @SkySportsNews and @SkyKaveh are asking the question—so are we. @DavidLammy and the UK Government must release the Chelsea Fund now. RT to demand action.
Sky Sports News@SkySportsNews

Money raised from the sale of Chelsea which was supposed to benefit victims of the war in Ukraine has still not been released. The Foreign Office has confirmed that the proceeds from the £2.5 billion sale almost three years ago remain frozen in a UK bank account.

It is with sadness that I have had to tender my resignation as Minister for International Development and for Women and Equalities. While I disagree with the ODA decision, I continue to support the government and its determination to deliver the change our country needs.

Minister of State for Development, Anneliese Dodds, has resigned in response to the UK Gov slashing international aid to historic lows. As conflict, climate change, and poverty are devastating lives, these cuts put the world’s most vulnerable at even greater risk. #AidCuts

As we marked 3 years of conflict, Arsenii, a Young Ukrainian Peacemaker, brought the impact of the war on children in directly to Parliament. In a meeting with MP @RNBlake they spoke about the need for more education support and the release of the #UkrainesMissingBillions.

Earlier today the government announced a cut to the UK aid budget to fund an increase in defence spending. 12 years ago, we released this video to show how aid protects children in the toughest situations. Now, the message is more important than ever.

Totally stunned. At a time when the UK needs to step up for the world's most vulnerable, it's stepping back. The failure to see how important aid is for global & national security is galling. We need defence and development. They're mutuallty reinforcing, not a zero sum game.
Save the Children UK@savechildrenuk

A statement from our CEO @MoazzamTMalik on the news that the government is cutting the UK aid budget to fund an increase in defence spending: “We are stunned by this decision to cut the aid budget in order to increase military spending. It is a betrayal of the world’s most vulnerable children and the UK’s national interest. By jeopardising the UK’s partnership with countries across the world and international organisations, it signals a withdrawal from efforts to tackle climate change, global poverty and inequality, and conflict and humanitarian needs. It will damage efforts to tackle global health needs and pandemics. It will add to economic instability internationally. The impacts will have direct consequences for children and families in the UK as well as around the world. This decision comes at a time when global solidarity has never been more important. Other countries will watch the UK’s decision and are likely to follow suit in reducing commitments to international collaboration. It will undermine aspirations to build a ‘rules based order’ that is so essential for the UK’s long-term security and prosperity. It will make the world a more dangerous place for children now and in the future. This decision flies in the face of the government’s commitment to respectful partnerships with the global south. There is nothing respectful about slashing lifelines for families in the most dangerous places. Earlier this week, the Prime Minister promised to ‘stand with Ukraine’. Now he’s serving notice on the support needed by the country’s children, who have been forced from their homes, seen their schools bombed and lived in fear for three years. Through UK aid, we all help protect children facing the worst the world has to offer. We have every reason to be proud of it and the government should fearlessly protect it.”
