Added a flag to allow units to jump via tiles of different levels! This might end up super broken in multiplayer though... #gamedev #indiedev #rts

@Lizzergas what kind of problems are you expecting to see in multiplayer with the jumping units, is it mainly related to sync or collision detection?

Finished implementing building system with some polish. Now it is possible to build, repair, and produce units! Next step is economy! #gamedev #indiedev #rts

@Lizzergas look real good! ...I hope I'm not overstepping here, but I think this style of rendering the built buildings looks better for your game. of course, adding your blue laser effect as well

Yeah, from the video it looks simple, worker goes to build a building, some animations and voila, but when you have deterministic lockstep, hash validations just to support the simulation, it gets complex... Also fog of war properly needs to handle when enemy buildings should be visible or not visible... Insane complexity. Thanks~

Thanks man! Can't wait to get the game to the people, once it is ready to be tested out. Thinking of doing first a private internal test before making a demo. It should be some sort of a survival single-player / co-op for now similar to They are billions or From glory to goo just to test out the engine, pathfinding, controls, graphics and so on:)

@Miumidae What do you mean by organizing a base? Placement of buildings and rally points? Happy to hear you like it:)

I do not use AI for art. Partially because of the visual vibe it gives and frankly all the hate. But. I work a 40 hours week and have a family. And yeah would be nice to do some game dev before I am dead or retired. If someone is so lucky that they can do game dev without offloading parts of it to AI (ie they have money, time or they are somehow capable of working 60+ quality hours per week) - sure, glad for them. Throwing accusations at everyone.. well, that's single-sided. AI is a great enabler that lets us, regular poor indie folks, do more of what we love. One still has to put in a lot of work to get a quality product anyway. Otherwise the "AI slop" term would not be so prevalent everywhere wdyt #indiedevs? P.S. The best illustration from programmers perspective :D

I'm going to lose followers for saying this, but I couldn't give a single fuck if you or anyone "lost respect for me" for using AI. Teachers, police and even doctors ALL use AI whether you like it or not because it helps us do what we love. I'm sick of these virtue signallers.

Working on improving the building system and added a repair mechanic. Tried to add welding particles, but it looks like the worker is pissing... #gamedev #indiedev #rts

Yes, every tiny difference causes one of the players desync. Most of the RTS work like this, like AoE, StarCraft, WarCraft, prolly C&C games too. Even differences in CPUs like Intel vs AMD can cause a desync and you as a developer have to investigate such issues and find hacks to fix it :D

@Lizzergas Honestly the replay/resimulation system sounds rlly cool though! I didn’t know RTS games worked like that... does that mean even tiny differences between players can cause desyncs?

AI is changing the pace of the development for sure, I think physically it wouldn't have been possible to achieve such progress so fast The hardest part is deterministic lockstep and pathfinding... They are still not ready yet, tl;dr game records each action you make to create replays that can be resimulated on other device. When networking will be in place, you will be sending commands to each other and each computer will have to recreate EXACTLY the same simulation, no mistakes :D This ensures RTS works the best and most smooth, but risks are higher for desyncs and disconnects that might be unrecoverable:( Networking is not in the game, but the code is made networking-friendly, so I really hope this will be the last hardest part:)

my initial thoughts is that if you want to make RTS x Battle Royale - sure, make it, spawn units, give production of some sort and battle out want to enchance existing survival game? Sure, extend it by copy pasting existing package and change or adjust variables or adjust the map Still very early in the development, been working on the game for 2 weeks only now

Not sure if the game will be better than They are billions or From glory to goo. But my goal is to iterate on co-op survival with pure RTS elements for the first place to see if it is fun:) Later on I plan to support multiple game modes as I am making RTS - Real-time-sandbox too, where hopefully, people could be able to use map editor or mods to make their own game modes too!
