@kfk222 @BCHL_Alberta Yep, it could, with AHL (19) rule and NCAA. HOWEVER, playing NCAA D1 isn't a cake walk. Look at Mrsic at CC last year 5-5-10 in 36 games. He had 33-57-90 in PA the year before. Point being, I loved that player, and he's gonna be a stud. NCAA is faster, stronger, better.

@BCHL_Alberta Yes, they are but the CHL is a draft n develop league starting w Bantam draft (14). Need exceptional status to play at CHL at 15. NCAA at 16, not happening. Even at 17 is rare air. (Toews, Kariya, Celebrini types) Heck playing in NCAA at 18 is very rare. The CHL is a feeder now.

@Mariucci_Guy WHY would they want to enter the portal now. They FINALLY got a real coach at UM. It's a great set up and should compete to be a winner every year. IF ANYTHING happens, it will be some of the duds will be forced INTO the portal. Bye Bye soft players. Hello real ones.

Just an FYI on #Gophers men's hockey and transfer portal timing... when a head coach departs, a 15-day window opens for players 5 days after the new coach is announced. Standard window for men's hockey is April 13 – April 27, 2026.

If there is a scout or executive that believes the best NCAA team would compete against, or beat, the worst NHL team, they should be fired immediately. The Canucks would SMOKE any NCAA team. Not every NCAA player makes the NHL. Every NHL player is already an NHLer.

Gophers AD Mark Coyle interviewed 2 college coaches this weekend, including St. Cloud State’s Brett Larson, and Hartford Wolf Pack coach Grant Potulny. So one mystery college coach. Hearing there may be one other candidate interviewed, too. Usually Coyle acts fast and there’s tons to do (portal opens after Frozen Four, determining which players he’ll keep, which are leaving), so I bet he has a men’s hockey coach decision soon. Coyle is speaking for the first time since the coaching changes later today to introduce Greg May as the women’s coach.

@BCHL_Alberta NCAA is hard. It is much more difficult than WHL (no disrespect) as I’m very close to the WHL. The age, strength, speed and experience gap is real. Cayden is a stud and will be just fine. The adjustment is real. Some players handle it well. Some take time.
