@radioactivered I never knew I needed to own a Krytron.

This is a krytron, a high-speed trigger switch historically used in nuclear weaponry to control the timing of detonation circuits. It’s an ultra fast, gas-filled tube that works by using a small electrical trigger to ionize gas inside, which instantly allows a much larger current to flow. The ability to switch high currents almost instantly is what makes it useful in systems where extremely precise timing is critical. Some krytrons contain a small amount of radioactive material (like Nickel-63 or krypton-85) to help the gas ionize more reliably. Krytrons were developed in the early 1950s and used primarily through the 1970s, especially during the Cold War. In nuclear weapons, they were part of firing circuits that required multiple electrical pulses to occur at almost exactly the same moment. They were also employed in scientific and industrial applications such as pulsed lasers and high-speed photography. Legally, krytrons are heavily controlled under export regulations like the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). They are legal to own in the U.S., but exporting them internationally without proper authorization is strictly prohibited.☢️

Initial funding in 2022 of $10 Million by @rookisaacman Jared Isaacman to initiate construction & at the time, it was the largest single donation in the history of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center! Expansion Funding of ~$15 Million in July 2025 was subsequently given by Jared and is designated for: Mission Operations: Supporting advanced simulations for Space Camp, Robotics, and Cyber Camp A new Dormitory: Providing seed money for a fourth dormitory to house students attending the programs. Really great to see funding of facilities and programs like this to inspire a new generation of space explorers! @Ellieinspace

Walked out to shoot the pass, saw the scene with the sun, and thought, how cool would it be if they flew right in front of it… a minute later, I saw the jets, focused, ramped down the settings to near-maxed out… which caused the EVF to go black. Tracked the jets blindly as best as I could, and sprayed right before I thought they would be near the sun. From first seeing the jets over the tree line to this photo was maybe 6-7 seconds - love when photos come together, especially on accident!

Totally unplanned shot, but sometimes those are even more rewarding!

I went to the exact same location of the Cybertruck accident shown in the Fox News video. This is the US-69/59 Eastex Freeway northbound HOV lane at the Y-split near the Eastex Park & Ride exit (approaching from downtown Houston toward Humble). In the Fox News video, the vehicle failed to follow the right curve, going straight into the barrier. Well, I tested it twice today with Tesla FSD engaged the entire time with zero human intervention. And unless you think I am a hologram speaking to you from another dimension now, it worked out really well. Here is the video of me taking the exact same curve twice, with Tesla FSD v14.2.2.5.
