About two years ago today, I lost it all.
I was laid off from one company, and the other company I worked with closed down due to low funds.
I was basically jobless. But the truth is, I wasn't so afraid, for two reasons:
I had lost jobs before, not because I wasn't competent, but because the pay could no longer accommodate my expertise.
And immediately I was laid off, I gave thanks and praised God, rejoicing as though something better was coming.
Believe you me, in less than a week, I got a message on LinkedIn. The co-founder of a prestigious company in Canada reached out to me, telling me they loved my work and would like me to work for them.
This picture was taken when I had the interview. The CEO interviewed me directly because the team was already pleased with my work, and to them, they had already hired me. I just needed to accept the offer.
The best part? The pay was over 4 times more than my earnings from both companies combined.
I attribute this to two things: one is definitely the God of the Bible, and the second was me posting my work, because the client would never have noticed me if I weren't posting.
The lesson here:
Keep showing up. Keep sharing your work. Keep believing that something better is coming.
Your breakthrough might be one post away.

There are only 2 ways you're getting gigs as a freelancer.
Inbound: Client sees your work online and sends YOU a message.
Outbound: You find the client and send them a message.
Both work. But one lets you sleep better at night.
Build for inbound. Use outbound while you wait.
Inbound lead: "Hey I saw your portfolio, are you available for a project?"
Outbound lead: "Hey I saw your company, I think I can help with your design."
Same result. Different energy. One came to you, the other you went and got.
Stop waiting if your inbound isn't ready yet. Go get it.
Posting your work on Twitter and LinkedIn is inbound marketing. You're not chasing anyone. They find you.
Sending cold DMs and emails to founders is outbound marketing. You're going to them.
Most freelancers who are eating well are doing both. Not one.
Clients DM me first because they see my work everywhere. That's inbound.
Outbound gets you started. Inbound keeps you booked.
