@jackblackwell @Jaybaba_ This idea that the UK is mass importing perpetual benefit claimants is just a completely unfounded assertion. At *worst*, you can say we have too large an asylum backlog, which costs the government, but regular immigration has a small net effect, leaning positive.

@jackblackwell @Jaybaba_ Average immigrant costs less to the state than the average citizen, not least because they spend years with no recourse to public funds, paying NHS surcharge. Less likely to be on welfare than native citizens. Overall impact tends to be roughly balanced.

I believe the fundamental problem with the UK economy is just that HOUSING IS TOO EXPENSIVE.

This is a book series where the first issue has someone permanently lose his humanity. One character is dead by the end after killing her own cousin. The whole group has debilitating PTSD and every issue has graphic descriptions of them being mauled, dismembered etc.

The U.S. spent 20 years and trillions of dollars replacing the Taliban with the Taliban. Trump replaced Ayatollah Khamenei with Ayatollah Khamenei in just 9 days. The most efficient U.S. president ever.

@eff_hey To be clear, I don't know what the rest of their ships did, or whether the consistently rescued *prior* to 1942. But certainly that's one reason they stopped.

@eff_hey In fairness, the tweet *that* one is quoting is much more level headed about it - the Nazis did make an effort to rescue survivors at least some of the time, until the Laconia incident resulted in U-Boats being banned from taking on survivors because the US would bomb them anyway

@breadandposes Interested to see their national strategy now. Whose vote do they aim for, and therefore who do they attack? Sure they can attack both ways but who's the core? Based on this and national polling, continuing to court the right will kill them. So, will they? It's Labour so, maybe.

@JonathanRo11063 @owenjonesjourno @the0bservat0ry @GenosCharlie Who is the group with different morals here? A group that's for or against? It seems to me that 50% is a perfect split, so even in your example there is no united moral bloc to be different from! But anyway - we have actual data on this sort of thing. x.com/i/status/20272…

@JonathanRo11063 @owenjonesjourno @the0bservat0ry @GenosCharlie Indeed here are some minority voting intentions in the UK for 2024. One of these groups is primarily Muslim - and it is *not* the one with the strongest single party bloc. Will you also be arguing that Jewish, Black or Indian immigrants and their descendants are foreign blocs?

@MechaniVal @owenjonesjourno @the0bservat0ry @GenosCharlie Ok, imagine all the jews in America moved to the UK. They vote in a block for a party that wants to send more rockets and weaponry to isreal. Now say if 50% of the country is already for it. Do you think another group with different morals should decide election outcomes?

There's a coordinated Trumpian attempt to destabilise our democracy. If the Greens win, the claim will be that the election was stolen. Why? Because there were too many Muslims voting against Labour. So we need to know what is meant by "family voting".
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

BREAKING International election observers have claimed they saw "concerningly high levels" of family voting in the Gorton and Denton by-election Family voting is an illegal practice where two voters use one polling booth at the same time. It can involve husbands instructing their wives how to vote Democracy Volunteers UK observed 32 cases of family voting in 15 of the 22 polling stations they observed. A spokesman for the organisation said it was the "highest levels of family voting at any election in our 10 year history of observing elections in the UK." John Ault, director of Democracy Volunteers, said: “Today we have seen concerningly high levels of family voting in Gorton and Denton. Based on our assessment of today’s observations, we have seen the highest levels of family voting at any election in our 10 year history of observing elections in the UK.’ “We rarely issue a report on the night of an election, but the data we have collected today on family voting, when compared to other recent by-elections, is extremely high. “In the other recent Westminster parliamentary by-election in Runcorn and Helsby we saw family voting in 12% of polling stations, affecting 1% of voters. In Gorton and Denton, we observed family voting in 68% of polling stations, affecting 12% of those voters observed.”

@JonathanRo11063 @owenjonesjourno @the0bservat0ry @GenosCharlie For example - as I stated upthread, Anglicans vote Tory in outsized numbers. Anglicans are also the largest religious demographic in the UK - and arguably the only truly 'native' religion. So, do you contend that the Anglican vote determines the native interest? If not, then who?

@JonathanRo11063 @owenjonesjourno @the0bservat0ry @GenosCharlie The effect of, eg, the war in Gaza has been for the Labour Muslim support to collapse - but as of 2024 it hadn't coalesced anywhere else. A lot of Muslims just didn't vote at all. Let's say they vote en masse for the Greens this time. Why wouldn't they? Who else is for them?

@JonathanRo11063 @owenjonesjourno @the0bservat0ry @GenosCharlie 'A lot has changed since 2021' Politically yes, demographically, not really. The patterns still exist, but if anything they're *weaker*. The Muslim bloc vote has been collapsing and turnout decreasing. That doesn't exactly speak for 'politically inactive people box ticking'.

@owenjonesjourno @the0bservat0ry @GenosCharlie You could have typed any gibberish to show that graph. Muslims vote as a block. Its bad people didnt realise this and its especially bad that people have been OK with it. Theyre told who to vote for by the imam.

@breadandposes Needless to say, I did not earn £50k right out of uni, and the debt has spiralled even though I'm now doing quite well for myself.

@breadandposes Haha it's me - I'm English but I even went to a Scottish university and had to resit a year, so I've got 5 years of £6,750 + £3k maintenance loans, that started accruing interest from day 1. I think I worked out I needed something like £50k out of uni to pay interest alone.
