@peachylian If you’re going to write “karen”as a description in a novel that isnt modern nor american it takes away the seriousness. Idgaf what people think and I rather not read/buy something that uses “karen” when there are better words to substitute if you want to interpret it differently

@plumeriade Kinosaki's gender identity is somewhat ambiguous. I personally interpret her as a transgender woman. I don't think she'd be the endgame romance though, and definitely not if further story developments lead further into 'crossdressing man' end of otokonoko spectrum.

last thing i'll say on the matter but i really encourage ppl to cancel their pre-orders, not only because of the translation itself but because of the precedent of disrespect this sets. if they believe they can get away with it before the work is even released they'll do it again

This is exactly why so many translations feel off these days. True localization should be reader-oriented, invisible and seamless—serving the original text and the audience. But this translator made it all about their ego, making themselves far too visible at the expense of accuracy. I get that translators have their own interpretations, but when there are established norms readers expect, it’s not the translator’s place to arbitrarily break them. And when native speakers are telling you you’re wrong, that’s when you listen, not double down.

Here's what happened I bet - translator decided they "know best" cause they wanna feel special, 7s didn't verify anything and now books are already (being) printed. Will avoid this translator in the future - gives same "localization" energy as recent games translation scandals.

@gomanga Harassment isn't okay. A few bad actors however do not negate the valid concerns and criticisms over the translator's decisions.
Please reconsider this - if I wanted to read Little Mushroom fanfiction I'd go to Ao3, not shell out for hard covers.
